Pyramids
Eiffel Tower
Statue of Liberty
Nothing imo compares to those three. Things like the Sydney Opera House, Taj Majal, and Golden Gate Bridge are in the next tier, still very recognizable but not as much as the top 3

If we are talking worldwide you have to consider how many billions of people on earth are a) Chinese b) Indian c) Muslim. They live very insular lives where only things that their governments or religions think are culturally relevant come to their attention. 0% chance most of them have ever heard of Statue of Liberty or Eiffel Tower.

quote:I tried not to be too Americentic with my list so I included the Taj Mahal because there's almost a billion and half people in India right off the bat, and most of them would recognize it. Add the rest of the world and I think a case can be made for the Taj Mahal.
I’m fairly confident a decent amount of people wouldn’t know what the Taj Mahal is of you showed them a picture

I feel like America is going to have a slight advantage here because of Hollywood.
Still I only had 2 American landmarks in the top 5.
I would bet that 50% or more of Indians wouldn't even know what the Taj Mahal is.
