As most have said on here ANY email ... and I wouldn't have sent the one the OP did ... should be sent to the league and not the coach. It is the leagues responsibility for discipline not some random parent.

This dude has been acting like an arse for years in this league. If they haven't taken action by now, I can assume they won't now. That said, I called the commissioner of the league and gave my two cents. I got the "we're sorry, we'll investigate" line.

As for winning and losing, I've never used that as a measuring stick for a successful season despite the fact I've coached a number of championship teams.

I think learning how to win and learning from a loss are important life skills for kids to learn. But I don't think that is best taught in a 5-6 year old league. Definetly by 9-10 year old league, absolutely, keep score, have champions, and kids need to learn that not everyone gets a trophy. I could even see maybe 7-8 year old leagues functioning like that.

But 5-6 year old leagues are all about teaching fundamentals and having fun. And that's why I'm a bit annoyed at her coach right now. I get she wants to win, fine, but you win by teaching kids the fundamentals of the game. She's not doing that, and she turns down help from people who are willing to help.

When I coached last year, I made it clear in the initial phone call, initial e-mail, and first few practices, that any adult (mom dad grandpa uncle whatever) that wanted to help, I would sure be glad for their help. I ended up having 5 dads/stepdads help out throughout the season. Not all could attend every practice game, but I always had a few around. And guess what... some of them had better ideas for teaching the kids than I did.

The most amazing thing for me, as a parent and as a coach, was seeing the skills progression through the year.

Come take a ride out and see for yourself. I'm the damn coach, and what the hell do I have to gain by lying about it. We played a tournament with the Marucci kids. We beat the shite out of them. Their coaches couldn't believe us moving our kids at the plate to hit it where we wanted. There's a team from Zachary called the Legendz that are better than us. We've best them once this year.. They've beat us twice.

It would take everything in my power not to lay my hands on the teacher/coach in question.

Spot on. This is why I'm so puzzled at the actions of the other team's coach.

Update: He emailed back and asked me to call him. I'm actually interested to see how he justifies his actions.

Who made you the playground Nazi?

This is none of your business. Your kid isnt even on this coaches team nor was you kid involved in the incident.

Why do you feel you have to make such a production about pulling your kid out of a T-ball league?

Just pull him out and walk away. You dont have to give anyone any explanation.

You sound a damn drama queen.

Ok, well I've only been around t ball for 3 years. Every family member who comes to our games are amazed. We throw the ball accurately from every spot in the infield, and we have a first baseman that catches just about everything. Even the opposing coaches say. "You're not supposed to be able to do that in t ball". We are a select team, and we have a "name" in this league. Parents come to us every year, wanting to get their kid on our team. We get to be selective.

And our rules are:
- no more than 7 runs an inning
- no runs after 3 outs
- no one can score after 10th batter
- every kid gets an at bat
- 4 innings or 1 hour

I've coached literally hundreds of kids over the past 8 years in everything from soccer, tee-ball, baseball, and football ranging in age from 3 to 13. During that time I've never met a kid under the age of 6 that could catch a ball with any regularity or really care for anything more than the post-game snack.

Get your kid a dirtbike or something. You leave them tied up in that baseball shite too long and they turn into goddamn crybabies. Never met a baseball player I didn't hate

well it's not like they are throwing the ball from 45' away either.

I can see there are a few 6 year old kids that can make a throw from SS or 2nd to a kid that can catch at 1st....it's not that very uncommon on a travel team.

but there arent any kids making those throws from 3rd at that age. Not in time to get anyone out for that matter

Well you've never been around our kids. My kid can catch the ball awesome, throw good, and he's in the outfield every game.
I'm not going to argue with y'all. Only 3 teams in our league, do similar things we do. The rest look like normal t ball. The draft teams in our league also look like normal t ball. I might add, most of our kids are in their 3rd year.

Our third baseman can, and does. He's also the best little ball player I've ever been around. He's a competitor and has older brothers who play travel ball. Whether right or wrong, that's all this kid does and cares about.

Only way to settle this is OTGT @ MSG's next T-ball game.
