I would say if you’re going to leave Louisiana, don’t go to a nearby state. You’re going to be doing all the same things, but away from your friends and family.

Go to boston, nyc, Tennessee, PNW, SoCal, etc

Chill out tough guy. You wont spend a dime on my education.

Also, there is nothing wrong with asking people how they would live their lives if they could go back.

I have since pivoted to the Data Science/Analytics field, which has a lot of math and computer science (which is what I enjoy the most) and I love it. I'm hoping to find a fulltime job in the next few months.

Data science is a great career right now. Most of the geologists and reservoir engineers are transferring to this looking for a career change. Upstream oil and gas is a dead end career at this point.

I like this, but if he/she is wanting to get their PE I would take care of that first. I already said somewhere that I worked 14 years before hiking the A.T. I almost think the perfect plan would be to plan on taking a break every 10 years to hike/travel. The reality is that is not a possibility for most people. I know my hike helped me reset my life priorities. It was also a great opportunity to get back in shape.

Youve gotta be real about what you want for yourself.

There are a thousand right answers to this questions cause everyones wants are different.

At 23 i was engaged and just out of college.

Now im 33 coming up on 9 years of marriage. Own a home, 2 cars, 2 dogs, and have two awesome little boys. (5 and 3).

I am the definition of middle class american dream and i wouldnt have it any other way. I coach my kids Teeball team, we make enough to be able to plan and go on 2-3 big trips a year as a family. And with all that we will be empty nesters before 50.

Some people would vomit at the thought of that life. Some people like myself its all we ever wanted.

So really you just need to do some soul searching and find out what it is you really want in life.

I just graduated in Chemical Engineering back in May. Took 3.5 months to get job due to the climate with COVID.

I’m just trying to learn as much as possible on the job and move up the chain. Trying to start/build my financial background as well since i’m living at home.

I eventually want to move to the Fort Worth area.

If I'm an engineering grad, I'm moving to Houston or Dallas to make bank while I study for the PE. Around 2 or 3 years post-graduation I would put in 6-8 weeks of solid prep for the GMAT. If I made 700+ (this should be within reach for 90+% of engineering grads) I would evaluate my career prospects. Do I want to stay in engineering, or do I want to go to a top 15 business school and have a reasonable path to a large number of jobs that are currently unattainable?

I was in the same situation a couple years ago. Graduated at 22 in Engineering. Ended up getting on as a field engineer for a large oilfield service company after a few months. No kids, no wife, no large commitments to anything so I took this time to work a lot on an irregular varying schedule which in return was pretty rewarding. Making good money while having a small amount of bills and no mortgage allowed me to save a lot quickly and use a small amount to have a lot of fun while home. Did some traveling in the states, saw a lot of things and places. Didn't over do it and lived/partied within my means which allowed me to max out 401K and Roth every year since 22. A few years down the road and looking back I have no regrets.

For what its worth, out of everything I did the one that I'm happy about the most is putting the majority of the money away. Also, highly recommend going to Vegas at least once before you're in a serious relationship

I got into consulting straight out of college. Bottom of the ladder, grunt stuff...but I got to see a wide array of stuff that I wouldn't have seen otherwise, which really helped me in the long run.
