This guy needs to STFU....it was an accident. You think BP wanted this to happen? Do you not think they dont want to stop the discharge?? They are doing the best that they can.

The boats that were "standing by doing nothing" were support vessels and likely had ROV operators and engineers trying to figure out a way to stop the leak.

This is becoming another way for the uninformed media and environmental wackos to speak out against something else they know nothing about.

Why not? Of course you can smell it. FUmes go up as much as they go lateral

I am for drilling and everything about the industry, but the comments you guys are making about this guy are just plain wrong.

THIS IS THE WORST SPILL IN THE HISTORY OF THE WORLD ALREADY!!!! And it is still gushing and probably for months to come.

I do not understand your angle other than if these people keep quiet, all your jobs will be safe. I think your jobs are fine, but the oil world as we know it is now forever changed.

I can't believe the attitudes of some. This is worse than what any of you could have imagined if asked for a worst case scenario oil spill.

I guess it's easy to minimize from a computer.

Wrong. See BBC link in another thread.

Outside of a few more regulations added on by OSHA, this will have minimal impact on the oil industry. That's if there are any more regulations. The failsafe failed to kick in and shut off the valve. We don't know why yet, and they will do everything to figure it out.

It's not a worst case. natural crude oil is one of the best case scenarios when it comes to an oil spill. It's the easiest for nature to combat, unlike refined oil, which nature doesn't have organisms that break down the oil.

You need to calm down, look at it, and realize that every dire prediction so far, from the oiled beaches, extinct species, etc., have yet to come true. It's been weeks and the oil still hasn't covered the beaches (except for a few tar balls), and the LWF just opened up some of the coast for recreational and commercial fishing.

I don't think he can answer you. He probably has already killed himself.

Thankfully, some of this stuff will be getting changed, but it is several years off.

I'm not counting on it.

Offshore-drilling revenue sharing faces Senate challenge

Landrieu said the revenue-sharing critics would continue an "inequity" under which states that allow drilling on their land get 50 percent royalties from the federal government, while most states that allow drilling off their coasts get little if anything in return.

"Despite this inequity, these three senators are still endorsing the status quo -- a system where only coastal states have to shoulder the responsibilities of energy production without reaping the rewards," Landrieu said.

Sen. David Vitter, R-La., also criticized the three Democratic senators.

"This line of thinking explains why Senate Democrats fought to shoot down my amendment that would have expedited grants for storm protection and coastal restoration from Louisiana's fair share of the revenue from the oil leases off its shores," Vitter said. "Their line of logic is telling -- taking money away from those states that carry the burden of our nation's energy production, like Louisiana, to backfill the national treasury to pay for more of their reckless spending agenda."

Jack your rigs all you want while you criticize me. I'm a man, have at it.

The point still being that this guy did not one thing wrong and lied about nothing. I hate to see it also, but my God, it's true.

I didn't mean the damage was the worst ever already, I meant that even if the oil flow would stop now, the ecological and environmental and financial effects will be larger combined than any spill in the history of offshore drilling. But it's still flowing!

Sorry to the poster who is thinking because "only a few tar balls" have hit that hte spill is less than anticipated. First of all, that's not true, not even close. Secondly, just because we have been blessed by Jesus Christ himself for the factors that have slowed the landfall, doesn't mean it will never reach land.

It will somewhere soon. I just had a cancellation in Cocodrie with the charter explaining the WL & Fisheries has shut em down completely.

Jesus....H......Christ.

It doesn't even rank in the top 10. It isn't even the worst spill in the GULF.

Nobody is exploiting LA. These companies pay incredible sums of money just to drill regardless of whether they find oil or not. I doubt you are complaining when you are pumping these resources into your gas tank.

Compared to other oil producing state, La is not getting their fair share of royalties, taxes, etc. That is a fact.

Yes, it is hard to believe looking at all those rigs from the beach of Grand Isle.

That was a long time ago and a lot has changed including the ability to produce oil in deeper and deeper water. It is time to renegotiate our contract with the feds!!!!!!!
