Not talking to you, Rick. Talking to these retards with all their half-cocked "ideas" about what happened and how it can be "easily" fixed.
BTW, retards. The water at the seafloor is about 30 deg F (if I recall)...and it's (gasp) NOT FROZEN!!!
:omg:

Way over my head.
If the methanol fails though, I'll whip out TD and show them your post.

what is your role in all of this? you say you are in a conference call every morning. are you in logistics?
Posted on 5/9/10 at 1:00 am to supatigah
General Curtis, who works for the TAG, has a LANG task force down at the logistics and operations center in Houma to help manage oil boom distribution and placement. As part of General Curtis' task force, I collect and compile the boom data each morning in the logistics and operations conference call. As such, I get keyed in on the latest with the recovery, preventive, and reactive measures that are ongoing.

I took my posts down because there was way too much info in there. My idea was originally conveyed to my boss in an email and putting it out there in the public before my company has a chance to act on it is not in my best interest
if you want to contact me directly off the board my email is supatigah@yah00

Was just following along the other guys who seemed so sure they would insert an anti-freeze.
So you can't use similar antifreezes that apply for water to inhibit the formation of the hydrate crystals?
I don't think anyone said the ocean floor was frozen.

Hydrates are a common production problem. That is why they thought there may be problems from the very onset of the cofferdam idea. This well has proven itself to contain hydrates. There are already proven and readily available solutions to this problem.

We developed an atomic weapon in 3 years. We got to the Moon from scratch in 9. We can figure out an alternative to oil. America's good at that.

Just curious but what happens to these methane hydrates as they rise toward the surface? wont they turn into methane gas?

Methanol is being attempted. Next update 8am tomorrow. Will post success or failure then.
Any word on success/failure Rick Rickles?

according to thad allen on face the nation this morning, the dome was moved off location and an attempt to plug the bop w/ "gunk" will be attempted next.

They thaw out at around 0 degree C,then the gas separates from the water and expands due to boyles law. One liter of methane clathrate solid would contain 168 liters of methane gas (at STP). You can thus see why there was such a huge blowout.
The rising expanding gas will the column some lift once they get it thawed out. .

Take it to the Poli Board, Dee Horton. Nobody around here wants to read your dismal, ignorant, vapid and un-informed opinions.

Methanol is still being worked. If it can't go, a second containment dome, "tophat," will be attempted. Both those failing, a top kill will be attempted with heavy engineering liquids.

And we would not have acheived either of these technological milestones without the wide array of products derived from oil.

Einstein's seminal work was 30 years before WW II.
I dont see 'from scratch' in the moon effort. German WW II rocket technology was direct parent of US space effort.

Nevertheless, I am sure your point is that a lot is possible if we focus on it.

How much methanol would you have to add to a flow this large to keep the methane/water mix from freezing up?
30% methanol-by-water volume will do the trick. They would only have to inject the methanol until the got the flowing temperature to around 70 or 80 F then they could shut it off and all would be good.
