So they ran their internal combustion engine powered boats out there, but they won't lift the contraption?

Makes sense.

They started lowering around 10:00 P.M. according to the Associated Press and several others posts now. I started a thread on it..

f fumes and gas is present in the area and you have little to no dispersal and lift anyway and a spark occurs you would have another disaster on your hands.

Just because there is fumes in the air doesn't mean there is an explosive risk.

Exactly what I thought

Assuming they don't use jet turbines, which is worse.

More time than is probably healthy

LSUDad has it right regarding the LEL. Just because you smell fumes doesn't mean there is an explosive risk.
"Oh shite, I just farted and smell the flammable methane....don't want to flip any switches lest it sparks and I get blown up. "

it's all about that proper fuel/air mixture. Even flour will become explosive if at the right air mixture ratio.

i bet the two of you also were beating your sticks together when they first showed the seasturtles dead on the beach saying "THE OIL DID IT THE OIL DID IT"....some of you people on here have absolutley no clue what is going on here..that is blatantly obvious

I guarantee I have more of a clue of whats going on out there than you could imagine. Arent you a boat capt? All you have to worry about is pulling your shift and holding your stick.

I understand that, but if they judge there is a potential for an explosion they will err on the side of caution. In the everyday operation of a rig, if they have to weld in an area they consider to potentially dangerous because of fumes/gas present, 1 of two things will occur,
the area will be shut-in essentially meaning flow will be cut off where hot work is being done, or a company will be called in to build a box around the area, blowers will be installed to pressurize the area, and the area will be carefully monitored during the welding activity.
