We all know there are some risks in enjoying the outdoors, but I never really thought about them until my boys started going with me.
My boy is 5, first year he pretty much went with me every time.
Seems like I spent vast majority of our time this year talking about safety.
Can't drill this in to them too young as far as I'm concerned.

B) I'll never wear waders anywhere water is over my head
why? but not that one needs waders when the water is over their heads... that's a tennis shoe hunt

Bc I almost drowned one time when boat flipped over in a lake.
I was hunting with these guys and they thought it was a good idea to wear them.
I'd never been to this place.
Boat flipped and i managed to jump into the other boat unscathed, buddy in boat with me fell in, we got him out.
Lost a shot gun.
Better than 2 lives.
Didn't even need the damn waders.
Most of my duck hunting has come in the form of soybean/rice fields and flooded timber where something is wrong if water is over knee deep.
Been out to catahoula lake, once.
Never again. Death trap out there.
Just not a fan of deep water hunting.

Again this is a very tragic accident and I know the families are devastated but the outpouring of support on here and what I’ve seen elsewhere in the media is a testament to their great fortune while they lived their life on earth
Yeah like I said previously, I wasn't close to them, but have known them all for some time. Anytime we had a fundraiser in the community for something - someone has cancer and needs money, school organization needs this, etc., they were there. Good people.

I had a friend flip his pirogue down South Pass many years ago in mid 40s weather. He panicked to the point he couldn't grab hold of a decoy sack. I was able to get him settled down and lift his legs up and float on his back. He grabbed back of my pirogue and I was able to tow him to other side of channel where he could stand up. The two things that stood out from that ordeal was how quickly panic and hypothermia set in.

I always liked the idea of the extra buoyancy with waders.

and much like a west suit they help hold in some heat even if water gets in.

Joes house was the first one on the left if you are headed north. His BIL had the next one. It had the big shop.

Darrin’s shop was a big assed home Crossfit gym.

I didn’t know that. I just knew that it was bigger than most houses.

It’s was his gym/home while he finished the main house.

So sad that he can enjoy that place they built. It’s a beautiful homestead.

Had they even moved into the house? I saw him a couple weeks ago on his tractor by the road working on the area he put the gates at. They just finished the brick pillars and iron gate a couple weeks ago. I pass it 3-4 times a week. And they built those houses fast. That whole place from the shop/gym, building the houses, digging the pond I mean they were quick.

Yes...the day I stopped Joe said they were just moving in.

Man, the visitation was rough.
Darrin was dressed in workout gear: OPEX shirt, wrist wraps, etc like he was about to hit the gym.
Madeline and her son Joseph were in the same casket holding each other in their arms.
They had been hunting on this same blind for years and were caught completely by surprise.

I can’t imagine what that family is going through. I have a 10 year old son and don’t think I could make it if something happened to him. I didn’t know Darrin very well but I know his brother. Hard working folks and all around good people. Sad day.

Was one of the hardest visitations/funerals I’ve been to. People that young aren’t supposed to die.
