The .40 has greater recoil than either the .45 or the 9mm, making the follow through shot on the double tap take a tad bit longer.

Personally, I prefer the .45 acp with 230gr jhp, carried in a custom 1911.

45, simply beacuse they don't make a 46.

In my experience, thats bullshite. Seems about the same as the 9m, and less than the .45

Incorrect.

Its designed for moose and elk hunting, though.

+1

I love my Glock 22 (.40). Fun and easy round to shoot.

You get my point.

Hell, i'd bring a shot gun, carbine and a pistol only as a back up. Id probably wear armor as well.

As for 9 Vs .45 or .40 all of what i said previously still stands.

If we are talking silenced weapons i would go 45, because of all of the different and awesome subsonic rounds. Also in that case i would suspect you are sneaking up on someone, and you would not need the greater mag capacity to shoot someone in the back....?

Also last i heard that was very much illegal.

You mean shooting someone in the back?

Silencers can be yours if you pay like a $300 license fee actually. And if I was going to do that, I'd already be handloading whatever subsonics I needed.

This?

Too late to go into all the spec on why I dont like a 40.

Oh, this I guess.

Well it is a personal opinion. But it is answering a question that no one was asking. The "knock down power of the 45 and the speed of the 9mm" argument is dumb and said be SW when they devepoled it. It doesnt compare to either the 9 or 45 on their respective side. Then when you look into the design of the .40 you will find out the .40 bullet is at max velocity/pressure the moment the firing pin lights the powder unlike the 9mm and .45 where they gain speed pressure until about 1/2 to 3/4 the way down the barrel...Major design flaw to me but im no ballistic engineer.

I guess I don't know enough to understand the implications of any of that. All I know is it shoots straight at 25 yards and its good enough for a shite pile of law enforcement agencies.

Yes that.

I know you can own whatever you want as long as you can afford to pay the rediculous taxes and jump through hoops.

Also last i heard criminals bought guns and stuff from illegal sellers. wierd how they circumvent all those laws that are supposed to protect us. Hummmmm...

why choose? Get both.

I keep a glock 26 in my truck and an H&K USP
.45 in my bedroom.

That great for you and im not gonna say you are in the wrong for getting it. I just feud with the ones that rant about its greatness when it really has no greatness. It was just a major marketing ploy for S&W, but if you like it I have one. not my favorite but i have one.

To each their own. What matters most is hitting the bastard in the vitals. I don't know enough beyond that to argue with anyone.

It was actually developed at the request of the FBI when they finally went away from .38 revolvers, but weren't happy with the 9 mm. I can't remember why the FBI did not want to use .45s, and 10 mms are just redonkulus.

I think, at the time, .45's were dominated by the SA only weapon. DA capable was a requirement.

The primary selection criteria for the .40S&W was temporary wound channel, which is a bullshite lab statistic, and then there was Smith and Wesson spending a shite load of lobbying money. Don't think that decisions like this aren't influenced that way, as they most certainly are.

It was a gimmick to sell guns, and people ate it up. Rather than spending a little more money to train agents to shoot better, a lot more money was spent on "caliber voodoo" as if that would fix what was wrong with the shooter. Its the same snow job that golf manufacturers use with new clubs every year.

If you have one and you shoot it appreciably better than a comparable weapon in 9mm, then

If you have one for the sole reason that you think its a superior caliber, you've been had.
