Are there any apps to get radar when offshore and out of cell service?

Does that exist? I use navionics on my phone when out of cell range without issue. Is there any way to keep up with radar short of buying sirius xm offshore plan?
And if XM is only real option for that how much of a pain is it to get and set up radar and get it installed on your lowrance if so? TIA for any info here.

AT&T gets decent coverage offshore now

How far and where do you fish offshore? We get fairly decent coverage in West Delta, Grand Isle blocks, Bay Marchand, and South Tim out to block 130.
SiriusXM WX is $64 a month with coverage out to 150 miles.
If you have a Lowrance MFD with radar, then you would need to purchase a WM-4 Marine Satellite Receiver, which cost $499.
Navionics is great, but only provides GPS location services when out of cellular range.

We fish out of grand isle and Fourchon mostly. Up to 100 miles offshore. I’m usually good inside of 30th miles I feel like. But there are times I’m dead for a while past that. But then out of no where I’ll get signal again. Guess when we get closer to some of the big rigs way out they may have service and picking up on that.

Likewise, it's a ghost town past +35 miles due to the removal of platforms in this area. I don't use a weather service, but have successfully used the tracking features on my SIMRAD Halo radar to track objects including weather. It's fairly easy to use.

Would star link mobile be an option?

Doesn't T mobile have "towers" on some of the rigs out there?

Outside of Starlink I think XM weather is your only other option.
Unless you’re in area that can get cell service. Sometimes I get better service 80 miles offshore than I do in BR lol

Navionics uses your gps in your phone/ device and not cell signal. In order to get information downloaded you need some sort of signal.
Where Xm really comes in handy is the bigger boats that are out for 24-72 hours or more, as the weather can change in that time frame. If you are only going out for a day, if you check the weather before leaving the dock and then have a radar on your boat for things like pop up showers you are generally good to go. Yes there are extremely rare circumstances always.

I have XM weather on my offshore boat and would not go without it. Have radar also, but the ability to work around thunderstorms in the summer is invaluable.
