ain’t I’m the same size. You deer arborists are crazy, man. Hopefully y’all change ropes out annually (or at some point)
Last year was my first using one and I really like it, more comfortable than a climber or lock on and really able to get the tree I want not settle on a tree.
I can see where some folks may be a lil scared if they are scared of heights, I had experience working at heights and some rock climbing and rappelling so it wasn’t much of a learning curve.
I will inspect mine each season real well but the amsteel ropes are way stronger than the climbing ropes a could almost be cut in half and not have an issue with the average man.

I'm 300 easy with gear and repel using a 9.8 mm ghillie rope. Feel very comfortable on it. Weight becomes an issue when you're packing around 40' of rope so I see no need to go thicker than necessary.
I bought a set of XOP X2 sticks this year and have been very pleased with the weight/cost trade off. Zero flex and feel rock solid on the tree for ~2lb per stick. Bonus for anyone with big feet - their stand off is one of the best in the industry and really helps to prevent cramps in my feet when setting my platform or the last two sticks.
My biggest piece of advice is to look up the FB saddle gear swap pages. People are always trying out and upgrading gear so stuff can be had in good condition for less. My favorite is Saddle Hunting buy/sell/trade
As expected due your due diligence to avoid being scammed but I've purchased sticks, platforms, and packs from those guys and had a great experience.

Anybody have recommendations on getting a shorter bridge? Need to make that change for next season along with new sticks.

I put in a decent amount of time in a saddle over the last few seasons, and have figured out what works and doesn’t work for me.
My current set up is:
- latitude method 2 saddle
- 4 tethrd one sticks
- hunt arsenal rzr. The original one
I’ll be trying all new hunt arsenal products next year, but keeping all my current stuff. I plan to buy 4 of the carbon icon sticks, the SUB2 RZR, and the infinity saddle. The tethrd ones are awesome, they’re just loud if they hit anything(limbs, twigs, blade of grass, each other, etc)
I use latitude knee pads. I like them. On my second pair. I definitely recommend a pair of quality knee pads…
I also use 2-step aiders. I carry 4 in my dump pouch and put them on as I climb up/take them off on the climb down.
I recommend ascenders too. I use a ropeman 1, but the Kong ducks are good too.
I use a latitude ranger 22 pack to carry my gear. I used an eberlestock x2 last season. It will carry everything you need and don’t need. Which is why I downsized to the ranger 22 this year.
If you’re near Baton Rouge and wait until the summer, I’ll have 3 different saddles, 2 sets of climbing sticks, and a 1 stick/rappelling set up that could try out before buying.
