rumor has it that he followed the path of a bay boat that passed there...

So did the boat hit the rocks? It's been a few years since I went out of South pass. I don't remember anything that would cause a boat to catch on fire. There has always been rocks underneath the water in South pass and the canal is now filing in since they aren't dredging it anymore (that I know of).

I went out of Southwest pass last weekend.

Hmm, so you want WLF to take you out on a test drive to prove you are a competent boater?

Maybe, or maybe you could take a written test for a endorsement on your driver's license. Even teaching some of the dumbasses basic boating etiquette would be a start.

Can you imagine the fee and time you'd have to give up to accomplish this task?

I could see there being a big fee if you are looking to take a "driving test," but we're talking about a one time test and nominal endorsement fee on your license. I don't see that breaking the bank.

F-That. A fricking boating license? Are you kidding me?

You clearly have never been stopped and hassled in another state over not having your boating license. It's BS and I fricking hate it.

The younger generation already has to take a boater safety class.

Btw, I'm not in favor for a boater license. We already have too much shite to keep up with.

I'm under 30 and I never took a class.

I know if you want to operate alone when your under 16 you are supposed to take a safety class.

Something seems fishy about this.......how in the hell does this sort of thing happen? You would have to think this boat had top of the line electronics, and the guy at the helm wasn't a first timer.

Happens more often than you think

You can get written up for not taking the course. Anyone born after Jan 1 1984 has to take it.

We'll I have been checked literally over a dozen times and have yet to be cited.

Except in CT, I got a ticket, but the supervisor and judge chewed out that asshat.

Hey it doesn't matter to me.

Just letting you know. Where do you go that you have been checked over a dozen times?

I haven't been checked a dozen times in the last 10 years and I am pretty much hunting or fishing every other week

No doubt, but from my experience it's usually bay boats/bass boats in these sorts of pickles. I can't count the amount of goofballs I've seen tear up lower units around st. Mary's point in barataria bay, where it should have been obvious there were partially submerged rocks.

When you are out on lake pontchartrain as much as I was growing up the coasties just get bored and check you. Half the time it's the reservist down for their weekend training.

Also I spent a lot of time in Newport RI and I was going in and out of a marina that was near a cruise ship mooring. I got stopped there a bunch and those guys had 50's on their bow they loved to point at ya.

The CT thing was some over zealous park ranger type on an inland lake, they had badges and guns so I was respectful. It helped that the supervisor and local state judge drove up to pick up their kids right as he was writing me a ticket. The young guy was trying VERY hard not to laugh the whole time.

They will definitely pull you over on the Tickfaw to check the PFD's on your female passengers. I had to ban the wearing of Wicked Weasel bikinis on my boat due to the the amount of harassment. Although the WLF boys were worst-sometimes 2 stops by the same crew on the same day.

Same here I am 33 and can only remember having my fish counted maybe twice. Only been stopped about four times and two of them my Dad knew the agent. There is so much area for a very small group of enforcement agents to cover that if you stay away from the major launches and inlets your chances of getting stopped are very small.
