They are not rare and I think may be getting more common. Can't imagine how with habitat being clear cut but they seem to be more common now in our area. When I live in New Mexico it was hard not to encounter one....they were everywhere. Neat animal...always a thrill to see on in the wild even as common as it is. Lots of people have seen them and did not realize it.....just a flash of something along the edge of the woods at dusk...but when you recognize one for the first time you will realize you've missed a bunch....

One of the last days of deer season this year I was sitting in a ladder stand and a bobcat walked right up under me. Watched it ambush and drag away a squirrel in its mouth. The other squirrels were NOT happy. Pretty neat to see.
