The whole thought is hysterical. Getting in a blind one morning "that isnt yours."

A friend of mine in Nola's family owned some marsh land in what later became bayou sauvage NWR.. of course once the refuge was created it was 20 plus years before hunting was allowed on it again.
they make no claim to where they used to hunt...
If it is not LDWF property I am not sure they can enforce the no permanent blinds on the lake.
But what state agency does do that?

Catahoula is a really big lake, with dozens of permanent blinds, in the ground and floating for later in the season when the lake gets high. Some enterprising hunters will go out and get in a random blind to hunt, as there is a good chance 75% of the blinds aren't being hunted every day. He can see a boat coming from far off, giving him time to pack his shite and motor off before they get there. "There goes Cicero" is the refrain. So people who hunt random blinds that don't belong to them are called Cicero.
At least that's what I've been told. I hunted a few times in Bullneck's spot on the NW corner. Great teal spot.

I don't understand. Why don't the "Ciceros" go burn down every blind on the whole lake?

the state should do what some other states do, lease the spots... or permit them.
somebody getting state locations for free is BS no matter how you slice it.

or ticket ANY mofo that hunts/builds a permanent structure.
Everyone out there should have to hunt from the boat or a blind they remove at noon, or a spot in the grass/trees.
If I'm in their spot they can just GFY, shoulda woke their sorry arse up earlier and got here before me. What they gonna do? shoot me over a spot?

We have a similar situation described here in our Texas bays. People have blinds throughout the dozen Texas bays up and down the coast. The rules are pretty clear, blinds built on the bay are in public domain and available first come first served. But again, tell that to some Texas local who's dad built that blind in the late 70's. If GW is called they can write a ticket to the "owner" of the blind for interfering with a hunt, misdemeanor here.

When the water is up, the floating blinds have several hundred dekes around them. The hunters' would argue that they couldn't do that on a daily basis.
I don't disagree with your point, in fact I agree completely, but this is how it is done out there.

I saw a classified ad in LA sportsman to lease two blinds a guy had built and claimed in catahoula lake...is that not illegal seeing as its public land? Or are all rules just tossed out the window here

I don't know how it could be illegal. But the person that "leases" the blind needs to understand that they are not truly "leasing" the blinds.

What, if any, punishment is there under LA laws for burning blinds?
Posted on 2/3/14 at 8:28 am to Salmon
Ah I guess I'm thinking specifically about wma's--which iirc guided hunts aren't allowed. Seemed to kind of be the same deal as "leasing" a blind on land that is owned and maintained by the state

My uncles, one being a Sheriff, would always bring a .22 in the blind with them so they could reach long on their warning shots...

Catahoula Lake is not part of any WMA, so I would assume blind building is allowed.

It's arson. Depends on the value of the blind.

I was from NELA and never went down there but the rumors/stories made their way up to us. All my life all I have heard was if you're not from there and you want to find trouble just ease into one of the blinds on the lake. I guess it is like old folklore but I never went looking for trouble I had a hard enough time dealing with the trouble that found me. I often wondered if it was really like the stories I grew up hearing.

Owned by the state? The blind, that is...
