do you think feed will be expensive for jus a few chickens?

A 50lb bag should last an easy month. That is about $14 in my area. Now with 3 birds laying, that is about 2 eggs a day you will get once it warms up some unless you burn a light at night.

My neighbor has three chickens. My dog hates them and they cluck all day. Im in the city and I think about murdering them everyday.

Where do I get worker chickens? I want ones that lay eggs, not little stupid chicks.
This thing is impressive, IMHO. 8x4 with a porch, ladder, and hinged roof.

I don`t know where you would get grown chickens but most any co-op or feed store has chicks early in the year.

How bout a pic of it finished? Kinda curious how it turned out. Around here we have auctions every thursday night and some people bring them to the flea markets. Do you have any livestock auctions close to you?

Check the Louisiana Market Bulletin. I think it is available online.

Here too, and a neighbor has a 'tractor' or whatever you want to call it (Aframe). I call it a chickenshit smearer. Makes a nice even stinky paste on grass. Its a fox and coyote magnet, which is why my dog stays busy. I'd find a friend with a rooster for conjugal visits every now and then to repopulate. When hens stop laying, might be time for a turnover.

Sure. Let me get husband to post them.

I must admit my mechanical engineer dad did most of the planning and muscle. I mainly stapled the wire and held things still. I think it's beautiful. Had a great time with dad too. Memories, ya know.

I built a coop last year, but my son came early and I never got to buy my chickens. I got a little cleaning up to do and then I'll get a few this Spring.

I'm going with Rhode Island Reds, Barred Rocks, and Ameracuanas. I'll probably get two of each. They're cheap so I'm not really worried if a coon or hawk (or my dog) gets one or two. I have plenty of land for them to free range on when I'm home.

I have 2 Rhode Islands and 2 Barred Rocks. I let them out of the pen most every day when I`m home and the wife lets them out when I`m gone. I think I only paid a dollar and change for them when they was chicks.

I kinda figured from your Op that it wasmore of a labor of love than just needing eggs. The time with your father was priceless. Cherish it and I wish yall luck

The biggest PITA I have to deal with is I had to run hot wire around my coop because the damn cows liked scratching their head on the chicken wire and tore the shite out of it.

Slick, I wouldn`t worry much with cleaning the inside of the pen. The chickens will wipe out whatever is growing.

Interesting. Would not have guessed cows would be first to attempt a break in.

I don`t know about the websites. I posted this earlier but I`ve always got them from the local co-op or feed store.

The last one is completely finished except for the wire over the top. I was losing daylight and wanted to take a good pic.
