For me, it's Sig > S&W > Glock. The Glock is an annoyingly perfect gun, but we all know about the aggressive grip angle. S&W is great, in fact my first CC was the M&P Shield 9mm, but if your hands are bigger, you're not going to have a lot of real estate to work with unless you get the extended mag. Sig fits my hand personally very well, and feels like a pistol should feel when I draw it. Go put several options from each brand you're looking at and if it feels good, you'll be more likely to practice more with it. Enjoy!

Thats a matter of preference, but that trigger safety in NOT a true safety. Horribly unsafe around inexperienced and children.

Great for law enforcement, but not for others.

Glad to see this opinion on here. A while back when the wife was looking for a CC pistol, I got poo-pooed at the gun shop when I told them we wouldn't consider anything without a thumb safety (she really liked the shield). They told us "You can't disengage it in a high stress situation" and "It's will get you killed/shot". Of course homie showed us his CC gun which was a pocket carried .25 cal. (SMH) We basically said thanks for the help and walked out a few moments later.

A 357 magnum has good stopping power because I it is strong but not too strong. It will not pass through and will mushroom and fragment more stopping a peep on crack. Also the recoil doesn’t mess up second shot as much and ammo is available.

Was about set to get my wife a p365 and have pretty much changed mind to a Walther PDP f . Smaller frame than my Glock 19. It doesn't really conceal very well. Keeps the beggars away in St Louis . The LC9 she carries with 6+1 is tiny bit I want to fell better with a double stack magazine.

If you are attacked by John Wick or Jason Bourne or any other Hollywood creation.

Go ahead and grab the slide of a Glock and get someone to pull the trigger and see how that works out for you.

Although his post about the 357 magnum is crazy he's not wrong about this. He's not referring to someone grabbing the slide and removing it from the gun like in the movies. If you hold the slide and fire the gun it won't cycle another round.

He didn't present it well at all but he's kinda right about the 357 magnum thing. It's generally more effective than the .44 magnum on people, but only because the loads are better suited for people.

Relative to the .44, sure, but to say that the 357 mag recoil doesn't affect follow up shots is looney toons.

If they were saying that specifically about the Shield I don’t disagree, although nothing says you can’t just leave it disengaged. If they said it as a general rule they’re morons.

Yep. The shield safety is definitely not a regular thumb safety. When I had one, I carried it with the safety off and just used it when the gun was not in the holster.

I really believe the Sig P365 in the original frame is the best conceal firearm on the market. Small, sleek with adequate 9mm capacity and decent sights. Plus can be had for less than $500, with or without manual safety. It’s a great shooter for a pistol that size.

OP I’m 52 years old. I’ve carried a concealed weapon for at least 30+ years. There are a lot of good suggestions on here from other posters. I switched from a Glock 43 to a Sig Sauer P365XL. Personally I think the P365XL is the finest conceal pistol I’ve ever owned and I’ve carried too many to count. The XL is just long enough that my pinky finger fits on the bottom. It’s not a big difference in size from the P365. Mine came with a 12 round mag and two 15 round magazines. That’s a lot of bullet capacity versus so many of the other concealed weapons on the market today. That Sig 365 or 365 XL is just so easy to conceal.

Agreed. Only reason I didn't buy one is the regular 365 fits in my pocket and the XL does not

I combined both, 365 slide with the 365 xl grip module. Installed the flat trigger and love it.

My father carries the P365 and his hands are bigger than mine. I’d be perfectly fine having that one too as my concealed weapon. Only reason I went with the XL is my pinky finger hangs down on the edge but that’s really no big deal because I shoot that P365 just as good as the slightly larger P365XL. I will say the 12 and 15 round magazines did play a part in my decision to go with the XL. Albeit I believe the P365 can hold a 15 round clip but it looks weird to me. Both are such a wonderful shooting pistol and for the price and the amount of bullets it will hold I just can’t think of a finer concealed carry weapon. I don’t carry in my pocket though I have mine at the 3 o’clock position on my hip. I have it concealed inside of my pants. I just wear pants that are bigger than my normal waste size.

I'd strongly suggest looking into 380 ACP for CCW if you are looking for compact. Kimber micro, Sig P365 and Ruger LCP come to mind. Personally, My daily carry is a P365: it's a great gun, but might need a bit of extra practice and good ammo if you plan to go with 380.

P.S don't believe all those naysayers that tell you that 380 doesn't have enough stopping power
