The patterns will be different for sure. Scouted just after the season ended to get an idea for late season activity. The challenge is gonna be figuring out the activity early season. That’s if I’m even that mad at them lol.
In all honesty, this thread should be mandatory for anyone that wants to start public land deer hunting lol.

Are you mainly bow hunting or gun hunting? I usually hit the WMAs in October when a lot of people don’t. I find most bow hunters that I meet on them have same mind frame and etiquette. Other than a lottery hunt, I wouldn’t touch public land during gun season.

For the most part you should be fine mid day scouting unless it’s the weekend or someone walked in from a different area/road.

That’s what I’m trying to not get discouraged about. I’m only available to do it on Friday, Saturday or Sunday.
This damn job lol.

Bow only for sure. WMA I’m looking at is bow only for the most part.
I’ll just ask ole friend of mine if I can hunt his farm during the primitive weekends because no way in hell I’m dealing with that shite

You should pick up duck hunting on public land. Much more graceful bunch

You may be digging to deep into the crowd thing. I can only speak for my self and the places I hunt but there won’t be a hunter in every tree.
Use common sense, if there isn’t a truck at parking area then chances are you won’t run into anyone else. If there’s a truck there then there’s still a slim chance you’ll walk into someone else. Hunt where no one is parked at and chances are you’ll be fine.
Public lands do get crowds on certain weekends but there still won’t be a hunter in every tree. Again, I’m only speaking of places I hunt.

Deer don’t react the same to an ebike as they do to human footsteps. I think a bike moving through the leaves sounds like the wind blowing to them. I started using an ebike 2 seasons ago and it’s crazy how close you can get to deer without spooking them. I’m talking like 10 yards. I’ve ridden up on a few that saw my light on the trail ahead and were looking away from me and didn’t realize I was behind them until I was damn near on top of them.
Hating on e-bikes is just the “cool” thing to do. Like hating on Sitka clothes. I don’t know if it’s out of jealously or what.
Also, I get it’s illegal to ride them on walking trails. I’m not saying people should do that. Just stating that they spook deer less than a person walking.

i got fed up with deer camp bullshite and grown men acting like jealous little bitches
I have been in various types and levels of hunting clubs over the last 40 years.
It never seances to amaze me how a grown arse man can act like a sniveling bitch over deer. Some “men” just wake up and absolutely refuse to be happy or satiated. It has to be a sad way to live.

Just messing with that crowd, yall do yall and I’ll do me.

I don't use a seat on my ebike. Just the post.
I haven't hunted with it yet but I'm pumped about how much more ground I'll be able to cover when scouting with it. I usually wear tennis shoes and run the trails. It'll be easy this year. I wish they'd be banned completely (atvs aren't allowed on the conservation area but ebikes are) but until then I'm gonna use it. Im tired of walked 2 miles in the morning with my bow and stand just to get passed up by an old fat guy on a bike.

lol on the seat. I’m just picking.
I know they have a place and are a great tool to have and use especially on public land.

Thanks man. I appreciate it. Many have told me it will crush your spirit but the reward is well worth it.

They are a heck of a lot quieter than a four wheeler for sure
Posted on 6/13/25 at 8:37 pm to freshtigerbait
Strictly my opinion but shooting any deer on public land is a reward!
Sure you’ll have ups and downs but don’t get discouraged cause when it all comes together you’ll see it’ll be all worth it.

Sure thing friend.
Redfish was being sarcastic earlier I am assuming, with public land duck hunting. That looks like an absolute nightmare.

I just don’t get it at all man. I really don’t. One would think that since they’re not in meetings, reading invoices, opening outlook emails, or over seeing any work operation, they would be at peace in the great outdoors and not have a worry in the world.
Posted on 6/13/25 at 8:51 pm to WillFerrellisking
I’d be pissed as all hell if I got a limit of ducks, and the next day someone slips in and is there before me because of them hearing my shots.
