Thanks. I found out who it was. I was supposed to be on that boat, but had family plans this weekend. Hopefully they recover him soon. I was told he came up with a big grouper, went back down to swim to the back of the boat but never resurfaced.

a few years ago. Fortunately he was spotted by some crew on a platform and recovered safely.
Was this before 2009?

I'm assuming it is. That happened before I started in 2010

Ok. I was in a dive shop in Westwego back in 2008 and I was talking to the owner of the shop. He starts to tell me that the guy who was checking out before me was lost in the Gulf for something like 8 hours before being rescued onto a oil rig. Says the guy spearfishes all the time. He was hooked on a grouper and wouldn't let go. The grouper drug the guy something like 1 mile from his boat. By the time he killed the fish he realized he was lost in the Gulf. He started swimming with the fish North. Sharks started to circle him. So he let the sharks have the fish and eventually made it to an oil rig. Im assuming this is the same guy because CG was involved also. But I thought the guy was an idiot for not letting the fish go in the first place. Almost lost his life.

Damn. Lots of unmanned platforms I. That area. Hope he made it to one.

Ok. We get it. This is not a thread to tell people what to do and not to do.
This was obviously not a problem with someone diving too deep and becoming bent or narced (at least doesn't seem so at this time)
If you want bitch about how we dive. Do it in another thread. This is for information for the safe recovery of a missing diver
Understood.
Don't bounce dive mofo.

Hat.. Not tryin to be offensive towards anyones dive habits, just an opinion im sensitive about. Had some traininh in dive medicine and worked with accidents in the hyperbaric chambers in training. Ive been spearfishing the rigs for 20 years and luv it just as much, just want everyone to be safe. Seen what it can do

I can't believe one of those ska boats didn't see him. From the time we got there until we left there was always 2-3 fishing the coming and going.

I'm worried he was unconscious somehow when he came up and didn't use the BC for buoyancy.
If by some chance he was unconscious (he knocked his head or passed out when he reached the surface) he may have sank a bit and drifted off.
No updates yet. Praying for a recovery

We heard the coast guard on the radio on the way in yesterday. Sad stuff

Well the current hobby is killing people every year.
I'd hate to see LSU Hat lose his life, but I feel he's experienced and safe.

If he didn't make it, I hope they find him for his friends and families sake. So sad.
