Remember buying 12 dozen decoys from Security in Ellick for 24.99 dozen, flambeaus back in the 90's. You can't get a 1/2 dozen for that now.
in about 98 or so I took a trailer to Simmons for 19.99 Flambeaus. Still have about three dozen of the 20 or so dozen I bought.

I buy whatever ones are on sale / cheap at Academy at the end of the season. I hose them well at the end of the season and I have been getting numerous seasons out of them.

Only thing that matters to me is the weighted keel.

I’m not super picky about decoys. I tend to agree that you can kill ducks over most of them.

That said, I do appreciate durability for my dollars. Mine live in my boat during duck season and get beat to hell. I’ve had great luck with the GHG pro grade grey ducks, teal, and pouldeau. I’ve had the same 6 dozen + /- a few lost ones for probably 12 years. Paint still on them. I also have a dozen of their dos gris decoys (gasp) and I like them a lot as well.

I don’t have any mallard decoys because I am a lowly marsh hunter.

Hehehe, I’m a lowly cypress swamp hunter and black and white dekes work more times than not. I have higdon battleship buffleheads only. Hoodies will swim right into the spread and woodies will at least slow down to 40 mph for a look.

Damn dude, did you sneak in and ride the bug slide out front too?
2005 I bought a truck bed full of flambeau from Simmons for a dog client. It rained on them after I got back and all of the paint came off.

[quote]You're not killing limits of mallards over black milk jugs or faded arse Flambeaus anymore.[

If I didn’t have a turnaround going into mid Nov, I believe I could prove you wrong, now that I’m back in mallard country again. But I’m too lazy to dip and string 4-5 doz 1.25-2 liter bottles.

Might be time for a break pal. Absolutely embarrassing for you to throw a tantrum and bleed from between your legs like this over decoys

Pretty sure your decoy purchase didn't shutdown Howards Brothers...wink. grin. We had one in Columbia, LA and I loved it.

Looking at Heyday and Avian X

My buddy has the heydays and they are pretty light, float well in rough weather and practically indestructible. Paint held up well all season as did the flocked heads, and we abused them.

I’ve been buying 12-18 AvianX annually to replace my G&H’s that I’ve had over 20 years. They get pretty heavy, but they look good.

I bought some Higdon filler pack mallards the other day from PSA. Smaller decoy so lighter, they look good online and relatively cheap.

I pack in a lot of times so weight is most important thing for me. Oh and the heydays dual keel bottom allows them to stay upright in sheet water. Something you might want to consider.

I’ve gone back to my Avian X’s.

Ran the Heyday (Lifetime) for two seasons. They are too heavy with the weight inserts. Without the inserts, they land upside down when thrown. Paint jobs are not holding up. They fade if you use often.
