This. I lay off the call most of the time late in the season.

I had the gray ducks in a frenzy the other day with a few simple quacks.

After observing ducks on a recent hunt grouped really tight I was curious about setting up a small set of decoys (5-7) really tight basically all touching each other. Anyone else set deeks out like this?

Decoys are important, but so is wind. Right wind means the world.
As far as calling, I have seen late season ducks not listen, and I have seen em break their wings trying to come see, just depends...let the ducks tell you on a given day.

Hopefully the northwest wind and sun has them ready to play tomorrow morning.

Some great advice in here. The only time I really call is if I'm hitting a whistle for some teal. If I'm hunting private land, it's just a quack every now and then. If I'm hunting public land, I usually never have to blow because everyone around me is so bad. They fall out of the sky with a single quack and a few hen decoys

Word to ya mother. Both should be in ample supply in the Miss backwater this weekend. Too bad I'm in South arse Carolina.
