I mean if you would just take a little bit of time and explain yourself, we could actually have a conversation.

I just don't see how that needed to be explained. That tip could have been on any type of broadhead.

Fixed here. I have 6 of the original German Kinetics silverflame 125XL broadheads I purchased from Markus a long time ago and I don't ever plan to sling anything else. Never had one not do it's job even on a not so great shot. I just re-sharpen them on a stone as needed. I quit chasing the latest and greatest fad a while back and just stick to what I am confident with. Elite Z28, gold tip arrows, silverflame broadheads, FOB's. This setup has filled my freezer many times.

I’m going from one extreme to the other this year.

I have shot gold tip 5575’s with a 100 gr rage for 15 years. I am 14/16 with this set up. But one of those lost deer was last year. 15 yards , broadside, shot looked perfect but the front foot was back (which I didn’t notice) and I must have caught the last bit of her Shoulder blade. Single lung shot, tracked for several hours in thigh deep swamp and never found her.

That was enough for me . I decided to go heavy and fixed this year. Switched to Day 6 arrows and fixed 150 Day 6 broadheads. Haven’t shot the broadheads yet, but it’s about that time....

Go with fixed. Much better penetration than with mechanicals. Hard to beat Slick Tricks. The Standard, Vipertrick,or Wickedtrick fly like a fieldpoint.

I really liked the Vipertrick. Cool little head.

If I had to shoot a replaceable blade it’d be the QAD Exodus or the Vipertrick.

Learned a lot guys. Some of y’all are very passionate about what you use. I’ve been using rage mechanical the last two seasons but think I will start this year off with something new. I just ordered a 3 pack of Grim Reaper Razortip 125 grain.
1 1/2 inch diameter

Swat is making some interesting heads. The Hybrid can be shot fixed or expandable.

Short video.

I’m new to bow hunting and was trying to decide on wether or not i will do fixes or mechanical. Came across this article the other day. Recovery rate study of Mech vs Fixed blade

I thought it was interesting as i was leaning more towards fixed to stay simple.

This part is just sad:

quote:

We found in our study that the choice of bow type did not affect
hunter success rates.

This is about what I would expect:

quote:

Another consideration of the recovery data is
that the used of mechanical broadheads reduced the wounding
rate by half over that realized with fixed blade broadheads (9.1%
vs. 18%). The larger cutting width of mechanical broadheads (typically 5 cm vs. 2.5 - 3 cm for fixed blade broadheads) apparently
overcame any supposed issues with penetration or reliability. Mechanical broadheads could facilitate a more humane harvest of
deer by causing a quicker death and making hit deer easier to find.
