Well, I currently have a 55 chevy project that gets my "spare time", so I could take a similar path as you did. I would like to get the plans and review for a while.

Honestly the plans won’t take much time reviewing only so many ways you can build a strongback. Deciding epoxy vs poly is really all you gotta do before you just start working on it.

Def find someone who can cnc cut the jigs it’s a huge time saver

I showed Kyle and Drake how to do the seachests in the mold by laying up yours in the mold and popping it out just needs to be faired and gel coated.

Think they popped a bunch out of the mold after that and will fair and gelcoat as people want them

Got to put in about 6 hours with the helper today.

Should be whiskey planking tomorrow

Then the first rounds of dust will start to fly.

Looks good man.

Did you happen to ask Chris his opinion on tunnel versus rounded hull? How much speed and our ride quality are you loosing with the tunnel? Negligible?

If you are in Texas I get the reason for the tunnel, just curious what he's seen or knows.

No but every tunnel I’ve seen seems to rob about 3-4 mph at most it doesn’t seem like hole shot is noticeably different so long as it’s vented.

The only thing people seem to really be concerned with the tunnel is the displacement loss. But it’s pretty negligible imo at like 40lbs. But I guess you add enough negligible 40 lbs here and there it adds up.

If I wasn’t running long flats of sand I probably wouldn’t do it. Dragging your skeg through mud you’ll mever notice. Sand is another story

Exactly why I was thinking you went that route.

Other than some of my areas in Venice I don't deal with shallow sand flats and even then it's limited.

General rule of thumb is you lose 10% top end speed with a tunnel

Honestly don't want to derail this thread. It's a 55 1st series P/U that is in 100 pieces. I had the frame blasted, but I've painted it myself and it's now and ready for me to add the C4 corvette drivetrain and suspension minus the engine. That's all I want to say in this thread.

I don’t have the time, the know how or the expendable cash right now for a project like that. But it’s very satisfying to see people take on these projects. Especially regular people and not people doing tv shows. I think that is why this boat project is so fascinating.

With the boat out of the foaming stage figured I would post up the cost and man hours sheet I’ve kept up with. Notice the cost has dang near all the materials I will need to finish the hull with a few sheets of h80 leftover.

Not sure if I’ve been efficient with the h80 or not but I started with 15 sheets and I have 8 full sheets left with 1 sheet with 2 3” rips missing from it.
This also may show how inefficient I am with each stage and also how I only really work on it here and there. But as I said in my Instagram post I’m working at a pace that I haven’t felt burnt out at all but also at a pace that I am seeing progress which keeps me motivated.
One of the funny things I realized as I was sanding is that I’ve almost completely forgotten about some of the things I thought I messed up earlier in the build or have fixed them or buffed them out or whatever it is that it’s making me realize I shouldn’t worry too much about small things and that in the end I can still end up with the product that I want to see.

As I said before on to sanding. I am probably doing more than I should now in the foam but idk it’s gotta be easier to do it now. I’m basicaly going along and long boarding areas until I can run my hand across and not feel anything out of shape due to the nature of the planks. Basically just trying to get it fair to the touch but not necessarily perfectly fair. It’s also not taking much time ti do this now so it doesn’t feel like a waste yet. Idk y’all may say different.

Also realised I never posted the pics of it all planked out. This is pre most of the sanding I’ve done.
