Gotta love Texas. I was axis/whitetail hunting in November, and shot a deer and had to google what it was. Pretty sure it was a Sika buck. Made a badass euro mount and eats well.

I’ve got a couple axis and a blackbuck on previous trips. Saw an aoudad driving around one day and a cow elk last time I went.

520 acres in South Texas no lease fee but I do have a land payment.

850 acre lease in Junction area is $3860 a year.

Sooo....what's the season on the free range exotics? limits? are they treated like whitetail, for instance?

Exotics are considered free range animals, no closed season, and can be shot year round. Some species have breeding, mating, and gestation seasons in the spring/summer. Additionally, when it’s 100+ degrees in South Texas (summer), it’s not the best time to hunt exotics.

Nope. You can kill as many as you want and spotlight them.

I was in a lease for a few years about halfway between Kerrville and Junction when my boys were in HS and college. The first animal my oldest son shot was a nice Sika and he later killed a 31” Axis in full velvet, which the taxidermist did a great job of preserving. I have several pieces of furniture covered in Axis hides I had tanned over the years. I miss those hunts, Axis eats WAY better than whitetail, and blackbuck is even better.
