I had a 2012 Eco. Never had any issues with the engine itself, but it rattled a couple of times and made me think about that timing problem. I didn't keep it long enough to find out. Traded it in at 150k miles for a 2018 5.0. I'm getting 16.5mpg city and 18.3mpg interstate/highway with 34.3x11.6" tires and Bilstein 5100 level.

The 5.0 seems a bit more sluggish than the Eco did, but I get better gas mileage. Half of my miles are towing, so the 2.7 was out of the question for me.

2013 f150 ecoboost. 110k Miles. Over the last 40k miles or so there is a rough idle/missing feeling for about a minute when I first crank it in the morning.

Anyone have a solution it would be appreciated as the dealer doesn’t know shite

Same thing I did, had an ecoboost in my 14 and towed my bay boat a lot and wasn't happy with the mpg, I got around 15 avg and 8-10 towing.

currently have the 5.0 in my 17 and love it. gets way better mpg even with level and tires. I get about 13 towing my boat and avg 17 or so city and hwy sometimes can get up to 19.

I wouldn't own another ecoboost after owning one FWIW

Carbon build-up.

Common problem with direct injection engines. Put it to the floor a couple times a week and blow some of that carbon out. Also, always use top tier gasoline, and throw in Techron fuel treatment here and there.

Over 50% of my miles are towing and I'm sitting at 61,000. The 2.7 tows just fine for what most people do. Tows all the way up to 7500 lbs. I've pulled campers, airboats, and car trailers. With that being said I get 23 on the highway and towing any trailer I usually get 15-16 on the highway. Usually keep her at 70-75 mph.

Not sure, but I had well documented issues with my 2013. Like a few others, I switched over to the 5.0 on my 16 and like it so far, but it doesn’t have nearly the same power of the eco and isn’t as much fun to drive. Towing isn’t even close to the same, but I feel like better about the longevity of the 5.0.

Why would you want a diesel 1/2 ton?
serious question.

So far I'm getting 26.7 mpg and with the EB the best I averaged was 17.5. From what I've heard the Diesel should break in around 5000 miles and increase to about 28 or so.

I've had a 2018 2.7 since June. 12k miles. Computer says 22.9 MPG, but I calculated 22 at the pump over the first 3 or 4 months. That's average. It'll get great mileage if you have a long 55 mph commute. At 70 and above it nose dives a bit. All my mileage is commuting around Houston, so a good mix.

Yep. I drive to my in laws in gump land a few times per year and I notice mpgs drop off a few over 65. Like 23-20 or something like that.

130k on my 2013 3.5. No issues with the engine, likley wont be my last. I dont think there is any advantage over the 5.0 for long commuting other than it's fun when you want to go around people. Mileage sucks past about 70 and really sucks if you're an 80+ kind of driver.

Might be the best engine ford has ever had. I'm leery about the long term reliability of the eco boost engines. My FIL has a 2013 with the 3.5 with about 90K on it, and it's doing good for now.

im on my second 5.0. On long trips with will get 20 mpg if my foot stays off the floor. I hauled my bronco on a trailer from FL to Baton Rouge and averaged 14, not bad for the weight i was hauling. Only trouble i had with either 5.0 was a leaky radiator hose connection, $5 o ring fixed the problem.

one of my neighbors bout a 2.7 and didn't keep it long. He said it was fine going back and fourth to work. But come hunting season when he was always pulling stuff he said he felt it was always struggling. He traded it for a new dodge.

I’ve got a 16 3.5 eco 4x4 with 65k miles and the engine has been completely trouble free.

Was averaging around 18 before I put some slightly bigger tires(33s) on it and now I’m down to 15.5. Sucked some of my range away with those tires. I’d consider a 5.0 on the next truck but would have no problem going back with another Eco.
