Funny this thread popped up as I am going to start giving new life to a 20 yr old Yamaha bear tracker 250. Am also looking at the knockoff carb kits on amazon for $50. Op report back once you install.

This was the model I used a OEM rebuild kit on. There was great YouTube video on rebuilding this carb, step by step, instructions. I forgot what the rebuild kit cost, it was several years ago, maybe a little cheaper than the knockoff carb. If you buy a knockoff, I’d still rebuild the OEM carb for a spare.

I bought a cheap Chinese carb for 1990 Honda Fourtrax 300 from ebay using a $15 off code. It leaked out of the box, choke cable didn't fit, and ran like shite. I took all the rubber parts, gaskets, and screws out of the Chinese carb and rebuilt my 1990 using those Chinese parts. Runs great and it was cheaper than buying a carb rebuild kit, primer, and the vacuum diaphragm.

I have a 2004 Honda Rincon and just rebuilt the carb. I was glad I did that instead of buying the knockoff.

I’ve got a 2003 Rincon I bought new and about 5 years ago it got to the point it wouldn’t run but about 10mph tops. Wouldn’t rev up but half throttle either. I actually bought a new oem carb and I think it was less than $200 back then. Of course it didn’t change the way it ran and I finally parked it when it got to the point it wouldn’t pull itself. Come to find out, Honda had a heat treat issue with the camshafts.

So when the quarantine started and I borrowed my dad’s rancher mentioned earlier in the thread...I took the Rincon’s camshaft off and the intake lobe was worn down. $300 worth of cam and gaskets and it’s running like new again....after sitting up for over 3 years.

Yeah, I had to pull the carb off and clean everything and I remember throwing my original carb in the trash a couple of years ago. That was a stupid move.

I heard the camshafts do that with Rincons. I have right at 7,700 miles on mine. The other issue is the chain rattle. I do like the 3 speed automatic transmission.

I just installed one on my rancher Saturday.. it fired right up.. i had to adjust the idle but other than that its running perfectly.. long term may be different but it cost around 40 bucks and took 10 min to swap out..

Last week had issue with gas pouring out of the drain line, figured the float was stuck (had this issue before). Took it off and cleaned the float "chamber". When I re-installed, gas started backing up into the air box and the crankcase.

Figured the carb has been troublesome and is almost 20 years old, might as well change it out. China Carb, oil, and oil filter are on order and will be changed out over the weekend.

Hopefully, that is all I need.

Here to report everything went smooth and the bike is running better now than ever before. Rode it all weekend at the hunting lease.

Go with the Knockoff Carb. Then only use non-ethanol gas with 1 ounce of Seafoam added to every gallon. Shouldn't have any more issues.

I think the only difference is some Honda's have a prime for cold weather?

I rebuild my rubicons and replaced my recon with a cheap knockoff.

We'll see.

The o my reason I bought the knockoff was the bowl was the worst I had ever seen. My dremel.and the polishing and sanding wheels weren't doing shite after soaking in chemtool once and seafoam the second time. Chuncked it.

I did use the guts from Honda in the new carb. Most notably the Jets and the brass flappers.

Had to Dremel / dial caliper them a bit to fit
