alright, now that we have heard the rest of the story, yall moved in on someones else's blind, although it was in rough shape it was theirs , and plenty of time left to fix it up before the season, so yeah the rules state if it is public first come first serve, even though yall fixed it up it is more theirs than yalls

the guy left you a message and a number, so try and work it out, better than both showing up opening morning and fighting

I’m curious was this on Lake Misere butting up to the NWR?
10 years ago I helped some buddies build blinds there to hunt when the refuge was closed or when they brought guys who couldn’t make the death march in the marsh.
I hunted those blinds quite often and did reasonably well on teal, and dos Gris. Hardly any big ducks, had to be in the marsh for that.
That said we literally never ran into others.
But yea that area would be pretty easy to hunt out of a boat blind and set up where birds raft up on the lake.

All the land in that area outside the refuge is private. So how are you sure you're building on public land and you're allowed to build on it? If its on the refuge, that'd be illegal. Not trying to be a jerk, just a little confused.

I'd continue to try to reach out to the guy and get his side of the story. If he's a dick, burn the blind. Maybe you get lucky and he's the land owner and allows you and your son to hunt it.

I assume he’s talking about blinds in the middle of some of those lakes near the refuge like Lake Misere. That’s public and you aren’t on the refuge or on marsh which is private.
FTR it’s definitely not the guys I mentioned as they now have some primo spots in Holly Beach and Johnson’s Bayou.

Torch it or remove your lumber before moving on.

If you decide to just leave the blind and figure something else out, a couple days before the season opens, dump a 5 gallon bucket of fish guts in the blind.

Looks like he initially wrote "call me 337-302-1604 we will be hunting here"

then squeezed in the "if theres a problem"

and it sounds like he put in a lot of work thinking y'all could share it.

I'd text him.

none,

heck he said he would pay the OP for the wood he used and even offered to help him build his own

I think a phone call could put this whole situation to rest and may even make some new hunting buddies

Yup. Could turn into a lifelong hunting buddy. Often wish public land run-ins weren't so crazy. We share a pretty good common interest out there - you'd think that's a big advantage. Public land hunting has turned me into an introvert unfortunately.

Hope the best circumstances come of the situation. And hope you and your son get to work some birds out of there this year.

I’ll call him if you need. It would be great to tell him to pull up this thread.

Back when I hunted catahoula lake, this situations were solved with gasoline and a match. Some guys were kind enough to pick up all the jugs and decoys and throw in blind to make sure nothing was left behind.

Sounds like he read all of the "burn it down" and "bait and report" responses...

If the blind is on a WMA, Green Jeans may burn it for him.

You might want to update this post as it looks like the guy is going to be pretty reasonable. Because it somebody might end up harassing this guy when it sounds like he might actually be a pretty good guy.

It’s nice to hear of good public land encounters.
