What if a thrower is breaking the clays when they go airborne? It just burns off the shots as if it didn't happen?

Yes. We had a big group, so we ended up with just enough spare. But a group of 2 or 3 won't have enough spare to look at all the stations. Throw in broken clays and you're well over the 5 extra clays.

I'm not sure if they had a problem or not, but I think a couple more on the card would be welcomed. Maybe they will change it, who knows? They are barely open, I'm sure there will be some kinks to work out.

Looks like they are getting closer to landing a new home.

5/8/17 HRGC Update

quote:

Our search continues for the new location of Hunter's Run. We're excited to announce that a new player has entered the field of potential locations! This is a piece of property that has been on our radar for months, but we had nearly written it off. We're now in active negotiations for it and preliminary drawings should take place this week with the hopes of signing the lease in the very near future.

While we are not ready to disclose the location or full specifics, this property holds the potential to fulfill all of our goals. In the Ascension Parish area, it is roughly 500 acres minimum (plus the potential for further expansion). It is on the east side of the Mississippi River and a short drive from the city, and an easy trip from the Interstate. Due to its location, there should be no issues with noise, neighbors or shot fall / drop zones. It appears to be capable of holding a 600, 400 & 100 yard rifle range as well as handgun stations. Plus 4-6 Trap & Skeet Fields and 2 Sporting Clays courses.

Any mention about former owner of Hunters Run selling the land to WBR sheriff years back? I've spoken to him a few times in past about his plans to relocate. Selling the land, leasing it back, with plan to relocate, would make sense on why it was not well maintained.

It's my understanding (no solid facts), from discussions w/ former employees of HR, that the former owner (Duplessis) sold the property to the WBR Sheriff's Dept. a few years ago, and leased it back on a short term basis, because he (Duplessis) had found a site somewhere between Baker & Zachary and planned to move the operation to the new site.

After the sale of the WBR range to the Sherrif was executed, Duplessis reportedly learned that the new site he had chosen was comprised mainly of wetlands. The permitting and mitigation costs associated with the proposed site reportedly made it economically unfeasible.

The "short term" basis for leasing the WBR site became lengthier at that point. But since the Sheriff had no immediate need for the property, it worked out well for Duplessis to continue the HR operation there by leasing the site from the Sheriff.

At some point the issue/concept of getting "competitive quotes" arose. Some say the relationship between Duplessis and the Sheriff had become less amicable. In any event the new lessor (Morris) has executed a lease with the sheriff's dept, and has officially opened Bridgeview Gun Club).

Duplessis periodically sends out email updates to former HR members regarding the status of his plans for re-opening HR at a new site. His latest email said he is focused on a site in Ascension Parish.

I don't think I have seen it mentioned yet, but Hunters Run will send you a pro-rated refund if you ask for it. I got mine a couple weeks ago.

Just back from shooting a couple of rounds this afternoon. Business better pick up quick unless they have deep pockets. We were the only ones on the skeet range. One group shooting clays. Nobody in clubhouse.

Saw this today, too -- stopped by around 1:00 and walked the clays course to practice a little. I was the only SC shooter there during that period. Was surprised.

Can you do the sporting clays by yourself now?

I would love to go shoot more but finding someone that enjoys it and has the same schedule as me is tough

I don't think you can at this time. I think all the others have voice command. I think sc will in the future.

What's the fun shoot? I prefer the skeet range over the sporting clays, or whatever they're both called.

I'm out there most every Friday afternoon doing the clays. Sometimes with friends, sometimes alone. You can set the machines to have a 2,3,4 second delay if you're by yourself. I won't be there this Friday, but feel free to bump the thread if someone wants to meet up out there.

State sporting clays shoot was at Covey Rise this weekend. A lot of regulars (including the new owner) were there this weekend.

They setup a 50 shoot sporting clay course and its $14 to shoot the 50 round course. Also, they cook and you can eat for an additional $8.

I shot their last friday. Shot the sporting clays. Had only one thrower malfunction out of the 8 stands. The pre-loaded card is real easy and nice. If you are shooting sporting clays you can set a delay from the time you press the throw button, so you can shoot it by yourself. Eddie said down the road he will get the voice commands added on to the sporting clays range. It was $15 and some change and they loaded 60 clays on my card.

Also....on the first the 5 stands I only missed one clay...then it went down hill.
