I don’t believe alligator hunting is allowed back there so they get big with no human pressure and plenty of food sources.

I never get worried about the big ones in my yak. I figure an alligator that size isn’t worried about me. It’s the 5-6’ ones that get me anxious.

Be careful out there. In another month they will be more aggressive during mating season. A female defending a nest is not funny in a kayak.

Lake Martin has monsters... can confirm. I took this photo from kayak.

Go further South of the Henderson locks and you will see some huge tree knocker downs not tree shakers.
I had a camp in the Atchafalaya acres subdivision in Butte Larose a few years back and woke up to a 13-1/2 ft gator walking across the backyard.
I see one dead floating in the neighborhood canal that was 14ft from top of nose to end of the tail.
Worst ones are the ones bybthe state park. People feed them and those hogs are not scared of you. They come up to you thinking you will feed them.

I have seen some big ones in marsh island too. They are used to being fed so they get uncomfortably close.

As Willie on Swamp People once said, “he’s at least 12 foot, 11 foot for sure”. That was so funny, I had to rewind the DVR and write it down.

And this is why I own a boat and not a kayak. I’ve heard too many close calls of guys in kayaks.

I was fishing Chicot one day and had a severe oh shite moment. To set the stage I'll inform everyone that I grew up on the water (literally) and can feed the fish off my back porch. I've skinned more gators than I can count. That being said, one day I was on some sac-a-lait on Chicot and happened to turn around and see a huge log with eyes right next to me. Told my wife about it and she accused me of having too much to drink. One year later, we are watching swamp people and they are talking about a monster on Chicot. I know for a fact it was that gator.

Biggest I ever seen in the wild was on Mandalay Refuge around Houma. When this think took off into the water it looked like a tugboat was pushing a wake. I've seen legit 12s being loaded into a truck and it was bigger than that.

Biggest I've ever seen was dead on the bank at the Teche down near Patterson. SOB had to be at least twelve feet. Also saw one close to that swimming right under my boat at 2'o clock bayou long ago. Kinda unnerving lol.
