This story reminded me of the time I had a fox sneak up on me one time turkey hunting in TN. I set up off of a trail leading up a ridge to a field where I knew birds would travel. When I got there I saw him cruising through the trees about 150-200 yards off trotting away. Didn't think anything of it. I start calling and after 30 minutes, for no reason at all, I felt the urge to look to my left off of the trail. That same fox was crouched down looking at me only 10' away. We had a staring contest for a minute and then I flailed my arms causing him to run off. Didn't want to shoot him and mess up the hunt.

Funny you say this, my uncle swears that he got chased by one up in Pickensville when we used to hunt that way about 10-15 years ago.

One summer night in Northeast Arkansas, cousin and I going to catch some frogs in a nearby lake. A wildlife management area surrounds the lake, and my girlfriend's house is just up the road.
We make the last curve before getting to the lake, and something pretty good-sized jumped across the road. Neither one of us said a word, but when we did, the thing we both noticed was the tail that was as long as whatever it was ahead of it. Cougar. Only answer.
Year later in the winter, leaving my girlfriend's house late one night.
Walking to my truck, heard something scream. Took a second to figure out the only thing it could have been was a cougar. Few seconds later, same scream seemingly a couple hundred yards to the right.
In my mind, "If that thing could go from there to there in that time, it could get here ..."
Didn't finish the thought before I was in the truck.

Scouting friend’s property for deer sign with a buddy. We split up and I came up on a tree trunk growing out over a creek about 30 to 40 feet wide and about 8 to 10 feet above the water . There was a hawk in the middle of the tree trunk and it wouldn’t fly away even though I was pretty close. I yelled for my buddy and when he came up I boosted him up on the tree and he scooted out to the hawk
Now the weird part. The hawks foot was nailed to the tree with a horseshoe nail and there was a dead squirrel next to it presumably put there by whoever nailed the hawk. Couldn’t figure out who,how and why someone did this but was spooked. The hawks leg was completely mangled so my buddy cut the mangled leg and it flopped in the water and then to the other bank. Thinking later someone may have put a trap at the base of the tree on the opposite bank .
We split up again and about ten minutes later I flushed at least 20 turkeys ( no exaggeration ) out of a big oak tree . I’m pretty sure I jumped about 3 feet in the air. My normal vertical leap was about 6 inches.

I hunted an old Indian mound in the middle of the marsh. Had massive oaks all over it. Didn’t even hear a bird chirping and felt like I was being watched the whole time. Was one of the worst walks back to the boat in the dark I ever experienced. Never hunted that spot again.
As a kid I'd bike this wooded trail that topped a near by hill, as a shortcut to the nearest store. Usually to get BB's, a coke w/peanuts, or other type kid's stuff. And right at the top was a circular clearing where a couple other trails all joined. Never thought much about it, but I'd always get the willy's, hair on back of neck feels. So after a while I got to stopping right before, saying a quick prayer, and then riding across as fast as a 7 or 8 year old could. Many years later, after moving, I stopped back in that same store and remarked to the cashier about riding that shortcut as a kid (but not this story). Then he said he'd always wondered about occasional cars parking and people walking that trail, until someone told him the witches met up there, and they'd park at several different locations to meet. I didn't feel the need to elaborate.
Older me remembers it as entering an old 'off the path' Kiva type feel.

First story is one a friend told me. He was hunting solo in Colorado for elk. Anyway he hunted this section for a few days. As he was walking back to the tent one night after an evening hunt he here’s something behind him. Puts the flashlight in that direction and doesn’t see anything. Keeps on walking and the sounds gets louder. Turns around again and there’s a full grown mountain lion 20 feet behind him. Said he literally walked backwards facing it to the tent. Needless to say he picked up his tent when he got back and left.
Was flounder gigging one night. All of a sudden as I shine the lantern to my right I see something that looks like an eel but big. Think it was a damn sea snake. I ran across the water like Jesus and got in the truck and went home. Nope can’t stand GDCK

Try looking back at your stringer and having a big arse coon tugging on your stringer trying to get your flounder off!

Similar elk hunt story, up in Unit 2, NW Colorado near Dinosaur Nat. Monument. Buddy sitting on a ledge watching 2 bulls go at it (cow tags had we), hears a thunk thunk of a sandstone slab and turns around to see an emaciated mountain lion in full slink/stalk coming at him. Yelled at it, threw a couple rocks and had his rifle lowered Rifleman style to shoot. Cat finally ran off. He got the chills yeah.

As a youngster I used to hunt a creek bottom located directly behind a church house and big cemetery. Nothing ever bothered me as I had walked through that cemetery before daylight a hundred times. Well as usual I was walking back with close to a limit of squirrels and I happened to see one in top of a tree way off. I stood there for a minute trying to locate him again when all of a sudden the hairs stood up on the back of my neck. The feeling came over me that I was being watched and I couldn't fight it off. The final straw was I felt something truly evil close by and that was the end of it. I took off running as fast as I could out of those woods to back of that graveyard chain link fence, jumped the fence and I will never forget looking back at the woods all freaked out the cold chill that ran down my spine. Was 16 at the time. That is the one time I kept looking back over my shoulder every few steps walking back to grandpa's house..... I have no idea what it was to this day.

We saw a mountain lion on our last archery elk hunt in Sept. We were on the side of a hill glassing a valley and watching some mule deer below us. The deer wandered off and not 20 minutes later a mountain lion crossed right on their path. Ranged the tree he was by and it 100 yards away, he kept walking right at our camp. Thankfully we had already decided to leave the area but was still nervous packing up.
I will be carrying a pistol next year

One came down the tree to the waters edge and was just looking at me. I walked over there and knocked it off the tree into the water with my gun barrel. It was the strangest thing.

Hunting at night with my dad and he said look at that and pointed to the sky.
There was a light in the sky a little brighter than stars. It would sit still then dart in a straight line and stop still again. Did this a few times and flew off out of sight. Nothing except a helicopter could do this and it was way too high for that. I’m talking as high or higher than a Jet plane would be. This was before drones were invented. Some weird UFO type shite

That shite is real don’t care what people say. There’s a haunted place on yazoo river called gates of hell where a tribe of Indians drowned themselves in the river during the civil war rather than surrender to union soldiers coming through.
Went there one night. Was dead still and 40 degrees. Temperature jumped above 80 and wind started howling and the river turned yellow and could hear weird faint screams and sulfur smell. The sense of fear and dread I got is something I never want to feel again. My friend, a grown man, pissed his pants and was crying for 30 minutes after in the truck. I’ll never go back there. Ever

Walked out to box blind for a morning hunt on a full moon. Went to open the windows and saw what I thought was a ghostly floating orb with a face.
It ended up being a possum on a tree limb about 10’ from the blind hanging over the shooting lane. The way the full moon hit the possum, I could just see the pink reflective eyes and white face. Scared the shite out of me
I don’t care how much a man you are, the tricks your brain plays on you those dark hours alone in the woods is unsettling and anyone who says they have never at least been creeped out while hunting are lying

80s and 90s emus was like essential oils and everyone was gonna get rich with them. They were selling eggs for a couple grand a piece and I know of several folks that were gonna be rich with emu farms.
Well I guess emu burgers didn’t take off and several people just shot theirs when the realized it was never gonna be a market for emu meat and only suckers who bought emu eggs or baby emus.
Too bad they didn’t think to use one in a crappy insurance commercial
