Same with mine. Thankfully my two dogs are game-bred super high prey drive dogs that become a handful and a half if you give them an inch. So she has learned over time that if she wants to be able to enjoy them, she has to be stern with them at the same time. She's made progress, but I have to stay on top of her about how she interacts with them when I'm not around.
Next time I get a puppy for tracking, I'm buying her some random pet breed to ruin so that she stays away from mine lol.

my heeler has been the easiest and best dog I've ever had. I can just leave her outside alone for a week or so and come back and you'd never know she wasn't being tended to.
What's your problem? She just hangs out in the yard and chases birds and stuff. You think dogs need to be talked to and loved on all day? A dog that can entertain itself is a great thing. I'm not going to own a dog I need to board when I want to go on vacation, or one that I have to take everywhere with me.

Aussies are amazing animals, truly. Robust, friendly, dutiful. Nice snag!

My wife was home with my lab all summer and would sit on the couch and just yell "no" at the dog without getting up and enforcing it. I'm having hell with that now, she's always right though.
You’re married to my wife too?

Sons current puppy/dog is half blue heeler and half Aussie. Quite possibly one of the best dogs I’ve had and I’ve had a bunch of dogs from mutts to purebred labs. So very smart. Will piss you off every other day but it’s so worth it. Get a herding ball tho. Something to burn off the energy because she will have a bunch of it.

What a-hole leaves their dog alone for a week or so? Did you just abandon it to fin for itself?

Never! She’s fricking awesome so far. She listens great and does well in her crate at night. She is really my sons dog and he would be crushed if we had to get rid of her
Glad to hear. Hope you guys have many enjoyable years together. Just threw it out there cause you never know how things work out.

Me. I'm the a-hole that leaves my dog alone to roam 5 acres with food and water for a week.

I assume you meant "fend" for itself. Why yes. She fends for herself by napping on the porch, chasing birds out of the yard, playing with her shadow, and other things. I'm not there to wipe her arse when she shits though, so maybe I am an a-hole.

She’s 6 months old now! She loves to push my buttons and does it on purpose almost daily but damn she really is a fantastic pup.

If this is true, you have ruined that dog. You ever wonder why she chases her shadow? Heelers are some of the greatest dogs I have been around given the right environment and conditioned to be around different people(or not).
If she is great, she could have been amazing if you spent the time working/ spending more time with her. Mine never left my side except when I was at college, and then he was with my dad at the farm everyday. He would chill/guard our trucks by getting on the roofs while we were in the store or at restaurants. Laughed my arse off a lot at people getting startled when they noticed a dog standing above their head.
