7 mm PRC
Just bought a Christensen Arms 7 PRC for out west. 5.5 pounds and pre-threaded so I can put a can on it. I'm about to top it off with a NightForce NX8. I tell everyone if there is a miss I want it to be operator error and no fault of the equipment used.
On a side note, when someone asks, how many guns do you need, the correct answer is 1 more.

260rem or 300win
7.62x39 or 300aac or 6.8
Cz scorpion or kp9/akv or cmmg banshee or ruger pc carbine takedown
For me my next firearms will be a 10-22 takedown and a mkii plus a suppressor

See if the Christensen will group well. Lots of reports of rifle needing to be sent back before it will shoot well. The ones I’ve been around have been great. Sounds like a nice setup for the West.

I have heard a lot of the same with Christensen
My good buddy bought one in 300WM and had to send it back, it still shoots ok at best

Also a 5.5lb rifle chambered in 7PRC isn’t going to be fun to shoot.

22 WMR and a good spotlight is all you need

Everybody gone Can Crazy !!!!!
How in the world did thousands upon thousands of hunters kill hundreds of thousands of deer for well over a hundred years, without a can ??????
Buy a .25-06 or .270 Winchester and pretend you are an old timer and skip the can.

With disagreeable noise and recoil.

All the new rounds to sell more guns - BLA BLA BLA. Give me a tried true cool round like the 25.06 or 257W Mag. One of these would be a great addition to your lineup.

For whitetail, you really don't need anything else.....

But not just any old 280 AI. A savage 116 stainless with hinged floorplate, 26" Criterion varmint profile barrel in a Savage Accufit Accustock. Shoots sub MOA with factory second bullets and minimal load workup. Also brass, dies, bullets, and go no go gauges can be had with it. All for 1k. Hypothetically of course

Getting the itch to buy a new rifle to add to the arsenal. I have a 30-30, 308, 35 Wehlen, and 7mm-08. What should my next caliber be? Strictly a whitetail hunter.
PSA - not buying a 6.5 creedmoor.
Mini-14 in .223 would be interesting. Not the most practical for hunting whitetail but I've always thought they were cool.

We shouldn't talk in terms of need when discussing deer rifles. You only need something that can reliably land a bullet on the front half of the deer however far away you intend to be shooting at them, which could be done with 50's setups for most people and is even easier now with compact laser rangefinders. Basically anything on the market will work to 1000 yards.
If we're going to talk need, OP needs a 16" barrel and a supressor.

I have a Remington 700 chambered in .25-06 and I absolutely love that gun.

7 mm PRC
This is where I am leaning now. Now that reloaders have gotten a pretty good handle on it and factory rifle companies are really starting to throw weight behind offering in it I think it will have plenty of staying power in the 7mm niche. I wanted to get a 30-06 again but the 7PRC is almost exactly the same OAL but it definitely a big step up in accuracy and performance at range.
