Am I missing something or are these PSA Sabre lowers an absolute deal?
i wanted to get a Sabre so bad. but everyone here indirectly talked me out of it because of PSA's QC from 10 years ago.
for $10-20 more, you can get the same lower, but with actual B5 furniture.

This is what I'm about to do. Nothing wrong with dropping the money on DD but I'm on a budget.
Sales tax for me is 6% so it may be higher or lower for you.

Not bad but it's also not ambi (besides the selector) like the the Sabre complete rifles.
the billet rifles are the only one's that are "fully" ambidextrous.

After a certain point you're paying for fit & finish, matched upper/lower with no play and roll marks, not functionality. Nothing wrong with paying for that stuff, but people need to understand what their money is buying. The entire "tier" rankings for ARs is 90% bullshite.
If I hid the Colt roll mark on half the stuff I used in the military your average gun snob would declare it lower tier junk.

Got all the way to checkout and then I wimped out on the DD.

Well now Metro and Flats have me wanting to save money.
I also think one could be a potential wedding gift for me in the upcoming weeks from my groomsman. Not sure the quality I would recieve however, but I would be happy with anything.

I'm a prism supremacist. Look at what this dude did to a Primary Arms 3x prism (one of my favorites, and sub $300):
- Left in a rain barrel for a week
- Dropped/thrown a bunch of times
- Ran through dishwasher
- Frozen for weeks
- Shot with 12 gauge to free it from ice
Still going like a champ.

The upside to a complete rifle from someone like DD is that you can always sell it. Nothing wrong with wanting a "nice" AR, it just depends on what you want out of it. I shoot my guns, hardly anybody sees them but me and I don't sell them, so a franken-gun built exactly the way I want is the best choice for me.
If you're just dipping your toe into the AR waters and may sell it once you get bored, DD isn't a bad choice. If you just want a reliable weapon you don't have to spend DD money.

Frankencobbled ARs are great. You know all of the components that went into the build and can upgrade very easily on specific parts if you ever choose to.
When I was getting an AR10, I didn't want to mess with it because there aren't as many parts available and whatever so I just bought a complete Seekins SP10.

I agree with building your own. It's definitly fun to buy exactly what parts you want in your rifle. Pick a good barrel and trigger and your gtg

the only "problem" with building his own is the extra expense of buying the necessary tools to do it right. then he has to worry about his own quality control. buying a built refile from a reputable company, like DD/Aero/BCM/etc., he doesn't have to worry about all of that.
if he wanted to piece something together, i'd recommend buying a 100% built lower/upper separately and slap them together and call it good.

Excuse my naiveness...What optics can you run with pop up sights? Do you have to switch over to 45 sights when you mount an optic?

red dot/holographic with magnifier. either one will be "co-witnessed" iron sights.
scope/LPVO (low power variable optic) is a bit more "fixed" on the rail so then you could use a canted red dot or iron sights.

I forgot about buying the tools. There's gotta be someone on the board that could lend him some.

It's a great rifle for the price. I do wish the barrel was chrome lined though.
