Wait are we talking about smoking bud in the forest?

I was headed north in the summer and she passed me heading south. Most people northbound but some southbound. You couldn't pay me to go from ME to GA.

I packed and labeled all my boxes in advance (19 of 'em) then called my family when I was a week or two from a specific PO and they would ship it.

Not in a local book store so you'll have to buy it online. I'd link but I'm on an iPhone in bed with a girl. She's sleeping and I'm reliving the AT
.

Don't even consider southbounding. Some southerns do it because they feel as though they are walking home. Those people are idiots.

When you've done 80% of the AT, you've only put in 20% of the effort. New England is torture. Starting in Maine would kill a man. In addition to that, Maine is much colder when you start than Georgia. Also, you want to save the best and most beautiful parts for last. If going north then everything gets more beautiful the further you go along (except for PA). To go south would be depressing knowing it would never be as good as it already has. New Hampshire, Vermont, and Maine are worth the wait... Not sure if northern Georgia is (though still great in its own way).
There's multiple documentaries you can watch on the AT. A couple are on Netflix instant, including the National Geographic one.

did you lose a significant amount of weight?
Posted on 3/20/12 at 10:28 pm to Walt OReilly
I think this thread has just turned me into a backpacker.
I'm going to check out the Kisatchie trail. Probably start off hitting the Clark Creek and Tunica trails a couple times to get my arse in shape.

I'm a stringy guy and naturally wiry. I was 6' 155 before the AT and 145 after. Thats huge for me. Without the footlong beard I would have looked like a holocaust survivor. I gained it back in days. You can keep the weight up if you eat right, it's not hard. I was alone and chose to push myself into doing big miles on consecutive days.

Going to try to stop by Cabelas on the way to work tomorrow.

you ever go get drunk at any bars off the Trail?
you bring a firearm with you?
Posted on 3/20/12 at 10:47 pm to Walt OReilly
quote:hells yea. Drank more on the trail than off. Great friends made along the way to drink with, you always deserve a drink, and you can eat and drink whatever you want when you're walking 2,200 miles.

quote:No way. Unnecessary and way too heavy. You don't need a spyderco out there. People that brought guns mailed them home within a week. I left my bear mace in the first 5 days.
