A little more expensive than a battery...I swapped mine out about six months ago, then the replacement went out on the way home from work.

i have a 98 chevy that stays at the camp that i changed the alternator on about 6 months ago, i changed it with a crescent wrench and vise grips. it was super easy

I had the lil alternator in my door go out back in January. Without it, my doors wouldn't lock. I had to fix it ASAP, can't have a door that doesn't lock. I went and got one of my friends to fix it for me.
