I have been known to accidentally cut a little too hard on a deer's ankle once its chained up off the ground....leading it to fall and having to start over lifting it from the other leg.

Im terrified of handling small panfish to get them off a hook for fear of getting finned. Larger panfish are no problem because they fit my hand better. But the little shits my toddlers catch have me being the biggest wuss. If Im on a dock, I step on them, remove hook, then kick them off the dock. I come up with all kinds of excuses in front of others, especially my FIL who hasnt called me out yet.

When other people are in the boat, I barehand hardheads and unhook them like a regular catfish. When I'm by myself, I use pliers.

Better to get jewged than look like a bitch

I’m seriously thinking about wearing Depends when duck hunting because it’s a pain to piss with waders on in a coffin blind.

As many times as I’ve had to shite in the woods or marsh, I still forget to bring TP or wet wipes.

Deer camp when I was a younger man involved poker games and whiskey drinking at night.

I learned that bubble guts and union suits under insulated coveralls on a cold winter morning will absolutely, positively ruin your hunt.

I was 11 or 12 at the time. I was deer hunting and preparing to climb down right at dark. When unloading my rifle, I had an accidental discharge. Still not sure how that happened. I had shot a few deer to that point and I was comfortable with the gun. My stepdad was hunting just up the way. After he heard the shot he came looking. I told him I shot at a hog but was confident I had missed. 25 years later I've never told him what happened. Scared the shite out of me.

it’s been a good run but now as a middle aged dude I want to travel and go on adventures and just don’t have the passion for it anymore. I still spend lots of time in the wilderness and water but not for the harvest

Thats exactly where I'm at. I kill one deer a year, a few ducks and I have freinds that give me sacalait. Kids are gone and I work offshore. So when I get home, my wife and I travel to do mainly outdoor things like hike and camp. We just got back from a private cabin in the Ozarks in Arkansas. We did some off-roading in our Jeep and some relaxing fly fishing.

I used to Get some great sleep on a deer stand. Probably explains why my only deer was taken with a 1992 S10 pickup.

A couple years back on a Texas hunt I hadn't seen a shooter for 3 straight days. Last morning and we had to head back to Arkansas around 10 AM. 9:15 I look up and a decent 8 walks out. Not a monster but respectable for a last second kill.... maybe 120-125.... he walks straight to the feeder in the middle of the field... easy 100 yd shot. I go to get a rest and I can't get comfortable. I'm fairly short and the sides of the window were a little too high for my comfort. Instead of taking my time and getting resituated I rush the shot... he takes off running... I shoot again, and again, and again.... Empty the clip on a bolt action model 700 and never touch the deer.
Absolutely the most embarrassed I've ever been. I can make that shot in my sleep and I completely lost my composure on an average buck.
I guess that's why they call it hunting and not killing.

I once missed a deer completely, with buckshot, at about 10 yards, twice.

Somebody else killed it. Not a scratch on it from me

I've killed and cleaned hundreds of squirrels in my life, grew up watching my dad and pawpaw clean them without getting a single hair on the meat yet I still manage to get so much hair on them i spend an hour cleaning the hair off before cooking them. Id rather clean 3 deer than a limit of squirrels.

My brother hooked a yellowfin on a spinning setup and fought it for about an hour. We are fishing at night at a drill ship and im on the gaff. as the fish comes up from under the boat…he pulls up and the fish is inverted and all I see is a tail and I freeze..fish started whipping that tail and goes back in the water and “pop”…he gone. Fish was tail wrapped and explained why it was such a tough fight. It wasn’t a record breaking fish but a nice one and he had worked his arse off fighting it. I’ll regret it my entire life.

I have tried using a climbing stand twice, and both times basically fell out of the tree. First time, I couldn't get the bottom half to lock in at about 18' up, ended up hanging from my armpits until I kicked the bottom half up. Second time was basically the same thing, except the tether between the two halves broke, and the bottom half went sliding down the tree. All I could do was bear hug the tree, and slide down. Still broke my foot at the bottom.

Been using a lock on all my life, never had the first issue. I'll never attempt a climber again.

My second season really getting into duck hunting I bought my own duck boat and decided to try the Pearl River WMA on a weekday. The river was rolling right after a front and had a strong strong wind. So I back the boat down and watch in my rearview mirror as it keeps going and going into the middle of the river. My knot to tie it came undone and launched my boat into a flowing river. I panicked and did not know what to do, so I called WLF to report what I did so that no one would call them if they come across a boat floating down the river. I had all my dekes, gun, and gear in the boat. So I sped home to Kenner as fast as I could got our bay boat launched it to look for my duck boat, I litterally rode all the way down the pearl till it empties into the sound. I did not see it, I was all mad thought maybe it was floating in the gulf somewhere. Decided I guess I could look right across the river where there were camps, but in my mind there was no way it went right across the river, and sure enough the boat simply went across the river and was stuck on someones dock... I felt like an idiot.
