quote:i went through this a while ago and found one at walmart. 99 bucks. have both .177 and .22 barrels. and cheap enough to not worry about the condition. once sited in im routinely killing birds 20-30 yards out. I dont have the name right now.
Very nice....but yea, I don't want to spend more than a couple hundred. lol
I didn't think you could spend that much on a pellet gun....that's pretty out the box.

I have an old Sheridan .20 cal that still shoots better than any .177 or .22 Benjamin I ever had.

I have a gamo that literally throws 2 ft groups at 20 yards. I've tried setting the scope
The scopes on all the under $200 guns are usually crap. And most don't have open sights. Has anybody found a good, new open sight pellet gun?

Hatsan 125 Sniper Vortex comes with iron sights. It also comes with a scope, but can be easily removed.

One other thing to note with air rifles, is that generally, keeping your bullet slower than the speed of sound will help your accuracy a LOT. Pellets tend to tumble when they break the sound barrier.
Some of the Ruger models have rifled barrels, wonder how much more accurate they would be?

Take a look at the Stoeger X20S2 in .22. Fairly quiet and good accuracy once it breaks in (couple hundred rounds). Toss the scope that comes with it and get a real one though.

I've got a cheap arse Benjamin Pump .177 caliber and it is great for varmints. I've killed pigeons, rats, possums and a coon or two with one of those. Pump them up to about 10 to 12 pumps and let the pellet fly.
It is not a top of the line air rifle like you see those guys on u-tube use to kill rats and rabbits with their night vision scopes, but it is utilitarian air rifle that will get the job done.

THIS.
my Gamo was terrible accuracy wise. Then I bought some really heavy pellets to slow the fps and now it's dramatically more accurate. I think I was aiming for around 900 fps.
Those plastic tipped lightweight pellets will shoot 1200fps but can't hit shite.
