One of the biggest mistakes people make is they will spend 1k on a gun and 1/2 that on a scope. Truth be told that is backwards. Had a workmate do that last year and he is not real happy with his decision. Other factors played into his choice, but he admitted to me and another co-worker that he should have listened to us.

German Glass is hard to beat, Swarovski, Kahles, Schmidt and Bender.

There are tons of other scopes on the market that are really good quality. Whatever you spend on the gun, spend at least that much on the scope, IMO.

Again, I strongly disagree with that.

I doubt anybody is missing game with their $500 scope that they would have got with a $1000 scope.

Absolutely nothing wrong with a $1,000 rifle and a $500 scope. Optics have improved so much that I don’t really buy the old line of “spend twice as much on your scope”.
Deer hunters should buy a quality scope, but also buy a decent to good pair of binoculars.

They really have. I guess there are applications where the extra gnat's arse contrast/resolution makes a difference, but deer hunting at 300 yards isn't it. After comparing the Trijicon to the Razor I just can't see spending much more than $500 any more for the shooting I do.

But to each his own. I spend more on reels than most people so I get it; I'm just not behind a scope enough to where that extra $500 accomplishes anything for me.

Man I dont agree with this at all anymore

Yeah, the damned sniper fad really made gearheads out of a lot of firearm owners. Its unreal what people will spend these days.

For basic hunting 300 yards in, there's no reason to spend much money unless you just choose to.

A man can have a very serviceable scope for $200 if he doesn't mind compromising on features and just wants to shoot stuff 300 yards and in.

Lol,,, I had a buddy who was telling me he didn’t like his zies v4 because the turrets were “mushy” and didn’t have as good of a “click” as some other buddies (NF/SB/kahles)who shoot PRS. I was like WTF bruh it’s a deer rifle that you prolly won’t ever even dial and if you do it’s one shot a year!!!
I tried to tell him to sell me the piece of shite for 200$ so he didn’t have to put up with it anymore.

I've been guilty this year of worrying more about my gear than getting amongst the deer this year than I've ever been, but I think its a product of being home more than in the woods this year and day dreaming

The best scope on the planet is useless if you aren't hunting where the deer are.

Yeah, people watch these youtube videos where "critics" complain about stuff, and the affliction grows.

I found myself kind of guilty of it as I am looking for some stuff. For the type of hunting I do, most is overkill.
