This is what I used to do when I actually had time on my hands. I would order pure white Baby 1-minus lures and paint them in what I considered a 'crab' color, and that's what we used for redfish. Over time, with a change in jobs (meaning less time on my hands), I figured out that the reds would eat the pure white ones...or even better, white/chartreuse...just as well as my crab imitations.

Smythwick Rattlin Rogue

Not exactly a crankbait, but legit nonetheless. Actually tore up specks on the suspending rogue this winter. It's right around rogue time for bass right now. That and the yella magic

Smithwick Rattlin Rogue..while its really a twitch bait, you can fish it with a steady/pause retrieve much like a crankbait or twitch it.

A deadly lure for sure.
Now that's one lure I DO know will slaughter the bass...especially in the fall. Good choice.

I like it in the fall, you like it in the spring for bass, and winter for specks. Either way, excellent lure. And yeah, they will definitely catch specks in the winter.

Just like anything, I suppose it depends on the clarity of the water/conditions. But that white/chartreuse combo has proven effective in clear water/sunny skies. I still have a bunch of those 'crab' color I use in stained water/cloudy sky conditions. I'm sure if you could find a black or brown with a chartreuse belly it would be killer in off color water or cloudy conditions.

Bandit footloose, baby 1 and 1-minus, kvd 1.5...all great crankbaits.

First thing I do though is change the hooks to the mustad kvd elite 2x triple grip.

Also I want my crankbaits clanging along the bottom. I find I get a lot of strikes when I pause my retrieve after digging it in the bottom.

Got all the right answers. You mentioned it being heavy, the KVD 1.5 going to be heavier than the bandit square bill. Also, the H2O (academy) brand square bill caught me ALOT of fish last year.

It's all relative to how fast you retrieve your lure. They dive based on resistance of water on the bill. You can fish a deep diver in 6" of water if you really want to

Eta: and redfish will hit damn near anything. It doesn't matter the color. Hell I know a guy who put a shoelace on a hook and caught a limit

I hate these threads. Always winds up costing me money. I search for the bait and wind up ordering other shite on the internet. Just bought

Actually.... My balsa crankbaits are the correct answer. Don't even make a sound when they hit the water. Big fish bait

You can't get the ones that I have anymore so we use them sparingly

Check out the bomber model A square bills. I'm not sure if they're still on sale but bass pro has a good deal on them. They run 0-3 feet.
