Go to your neighbors. Tell them what gives and as long as they are remotely reasonable you will be fine. If they aren’t, get a crossbow and do it.
This is the way to handle it imo. They may be tearing up the neighbor's yard also. So they may welcome the help. But don't miss. Chasing a wounded hog through the neighborhood could get dicey....lol. How close are you able to get? A .22 or a .17 HMR will put a hog down in his tracks if you can put it in his brain. A poor shot will just piss them off. If you aren't in the city limits, have no homes immediately down range, and you have your neighbors buy in, bring some heat.
Also, OO buck is lethal as hell and safer as long as the range isn't too far for a shotgun.

If you can get it with one shot it would be pretty hard to ascertain where that shot came from

Very true. I read a story written by a deer poacher that poached the King Ranch in south Texas for years. He only hunted at night and said he had a rule that he would only shoot once. He said the first shot alerts and the second shot gives away the direction. Finally got caught because he took a new guy out and the new guy got lost. The only way to steer him back to camp was to start shooting in the air. King Ranch cowboys surrounded them and that put an end to his poaching. The article showed some of his trophy mounts and they were awesome. Today they would probably get you with DNA evidence acquired from the taxidermist.

Subsonic 22 right in the eyeball or behind the ear?

Most important question in my mind is what's behind the direction you plan on shooting toward?
is there a way you can shoot down toward the pig so you lessen any chance of the bullet going farther than you intend?

Why not just call to see if you can?

I'm pretty sure I've seen the same one, but I've seen it a few times.

If I can get him in the back yard it's a down hill slope that leads to 1,000+ yards of woods.

After you share a barbecue or two with the neighbors you will have no complaints.

go buy some fireworks and have them ready to go right after you shoot.

I used to live on So. Tiger Bend Rd. I had about two acres that backed up 75 acres (right in front of the pumping station) and I used to shoot all the time. Even shot a deer off my back porch. All depends on your neighbors.

This is one time in life a crossbow would be useful. Or just trap em.
