I bought a Coleman Carlsbad 6man for 50% off at Ollies and it’s been a really good tent….. it’s not a 500$ tent but it’s made it through multiple hunting seasons on public land from Mississippi to Illinois.

I had good luck with Coleman products, back in the day. I have a sleeping bag from them that is going on 45 years old

Sorry if already mentioned: REI Kingdom 4 or 6. Great tents. Tons of room. You can stand up in them, which is a game changer for camping with family.

Every time we went to the field, we carried those damn things, but we always went poncho/poncho liner under the stars. The latter setup in 40 degree rain makes for a shitty night.

Ace he’s camping in Louisiana and where he is there are no bears! Food is sealed. I tell u what everytime I want a damn snack I’m not walking my fat arse 20-30yds. F that!
Plus skint back wasn’t saying he had the best set up he was just showing everyone what he was running. Wasn’t looking to have you point out negativity.
Ace u live in a tent? Are u a hippy dippy?

4 season tents are usually thicker than 3 season.
You'll sweat your arse off in Louisiana anytime outside of December through February.

Louisiana racoons know how to open ice chests and aren't very afraid of humans in campgrounds.

whatever you get, make sure you can stand up. Id go big as you can, you will not regret it. We had this one for years while we were in scouts:

Also, that is not to standard. You'd better dig and pack. Lol.
I have a shelter half with a gray Army wool blanket sowed onto it (Korean special). It's awesome in a treestand... warm and dry.

Depends on the camping experience. Hiking and moving in the South, cheap 2 person tent for the season is great.
Light weight, pops up easily, sleeps 2 and allows the extra weight to carry a cook stove, coffee pot snivel gear, extra snacks, and extra propane.
If it's a static site, I'd go bigger and better.
I'm not going to extreme weather locales, so coleman-esque cheap at WalMart have been great for my kids and I over the years.

Don't go out and buy a tent. Talk to to the troop scoutmasters and borrow a troop tent. See what you like/dislike about what they have. Then ask for their advice. They may even get discounts from certain suppliers.

This is a group in our church, and my youngest is finally old enough to participate, so we all joined. They don't have any troop tents, it is all bring your own.
I did talk to some of the dads that I knew that have been doing it a few years, and they said it is pretty much 3-4 campouts for the year, all 1-2 nights, with most of them being 2 nights with the boys this age.
It is at state parks with good facilities and leveled camping areas for troops. We won't be hiking to a remote spot somewhere to set up camp, at least not at this age. That is for the older boys that are teenagers.
He said get something comfortable enough and that your boys can help you set up, as that is one of the things they try to teach. He said they had a 6 person tent that sets up in about 5 minutes, and a few air mattresses and sleeping bags. Nothing fancy, and easy to transport. Several dads bring camp stoves and the troop master buys food for everyone's meals, but most bring snacks and drinks of their own as well.

Get a bathtub bottom
Get a vestibule
Get it a size larger than what it states
(My son and I fit perfectly in a tent for “4”
With all our gear is really a two person tent

4 person is the shizzles…other than lacking a stove outlet, it’s awesome.

I have a Eureka Equinox 6 that just finished its 17th summer. I am not even sure they sell them anymore. I have had zero problems with it. It sets up quickly, unless you are exceptionally tall, you can stand up in it. I’ve been camping with groups where storms knocked down the tents of others and mine was not affected and stayed dry on the inside.
