Same biologist probably thinks he can do it though. It isn’t 100%, but if you do it enough and have enough pictures you can get pretty good. 90% shouldn’t become a problem. I have learned if you are bouncing back and forth on age just give it another year.

I'm going to put a disclaimer on my guess. If it's in the delta (which it looks to be) I'm going to lean towards 2.5. Those deer are usually big bodied.
If it's any other part of Arkansas I'm going 3.5.

Those are some tanks and like the disclaimer I had said in the first comment nutrition would change my guesstimate! What was the age of the one you shot?

Right on the edge of the delta. About 10 miles from where the black river makes the transition to the ozarks.

The taxidermist said 5+ but didnt know any better than that.

I vote 3.5
Neck/chest too full for a 2.5 IMO.
Slight sway with no real belly.
No brisket sag.

The first deer has that wide wedge head. He looks mature; I'm going 3+. On the last pics, I'm going 3+ also. Solid deer either way.

My buddy I hunt with has pictures of this deer for the past 5 years all at night except for one daylight photo of him about 5 years ago...he claims this deer is every bit of 8.5 years old and on the decline

He's been on my camera all year now.

Looking at your pics from this year , I would say that deer is fully mature (5 +).

Sway back, belly , sag in brisket all say fully mature IMO.

He certainly could be 8.5 , but I (and i think most of us) have a hard time delineating anything past 5 based on pics.

Shoot him this year, age his jaw, and let us know!

Congrats to your buddy!
Will be interested to see what you got.
If you can, post some good pics of the jaw so we can see as well.

I'm curious on that one. I don't want to call someone on the internet a liar (even though I do it every day) but I don't think that's an 8yo deer.

I agree with this, that deer is no where near 8.5 years old.
