There a Coachman truck Camper on Craigslist in Houma for $2700 LINK

That is a steal of a deal.

I have one. It is a older one that sleeps 4. Weights in a little over 2K. Has everything As the one in that link, but manual crank down jacks. had rebuilt it inside and out when I got it. Even installed a rubber roof. Was one hell of a job doing that rebuild.

We really enjoyed using it on long trips, just the wife and I. Bad thing is we don't use it anymore due to my health. Haven't used it in almost two years. I really need to part with it.

OP, for your truck, you will have to install airbags and there are these brackets that you install on your truck under that tie into the camper. That is what holds it in place. Driving with it, you are not going to be racing and you just have to take your time. It's a lot of weight and they do catch wind.

What color is it? And how much of a pain in the arse is it to take on/off? I've halfassed considered getting one but never go through and I use the hell out of my bed.

I never understood the truck bed camper idea. IMHO, a conversion van is so much better. I owned a coversion for 7 years and loved it. Even if you want to go semi-offroad, they have 4wd models. The 4wd Astro/Safari is quite capable and easily modified for off road. You can have a nice conversion for half of a truck bed camper, still get great gas mileage, and not be overloaded. The reason it is so cheap is because any van can be a conversion to have sink, water, heat/ac while stationary, etc. The only issue is a bathroom and Im not sure why you wouldnt just take a dump at gas station/fast food/walmart and carry luggable loo for emergencies. Speaking of which, conversion van is much easier to parking lot sleep than any camper. You will never get run off in a conversion unless you have an unmuffled generator.

I think I'm gonna pass on that one man. Don't feel like dropping that much coin right now.

I wish there was a place where you could rent the damn things

I have a cheaper version that I love. It's basically a Jeep top over the bed of your truck. Mine's on a short arse bed, but they make them for all trucks. Super easy to take down, and I just leave mine on without the windows, when I don't need them.

Bestop

LINK Place to buy it from. Looks like $700.

Capri still has a place off of Airline in Houston and they make high quality campers. I spent many a night in one back in my bulldoging and team roping days

They can make nice permanent camps too, once they're no longer road worthy.
