Flying out for a turkey hunt in April. Curious if any baws had to get a bird they wanted mounted back home.
How did y’all do it?
Can you put it in an ice chest on a plane? Rules said 62 linear inches on luggage.

Talk to your taxidermist. You can cut the fan and fold it up into a really small box and freeze them ship overnight. Just gotta cut it right. Your taxidermist can show you.

Good luck! Can’t wait till turkey season! I still need a Rio and Merriam for the grand slam.

Consider a taxidermist where you’ll be hunting. I’ve had multiple Western big game heads mounted where I killed them and they turned out great. The taxi can build a box to ship it in.

Make sure you can zip tie it for extra security that it won’t open up.
TSA has zip ties if they open it up but I always put a few in a ziploc and duct tape it to the inside of the lid. I’ve never had my cooler checked before.

We hunted with Switchgrass Outfitters just outside of Orlando. Seth was a great guy and I got a bird, my buddy missed one and another friend did not get a chance at one. We went late in the season and they shut down after the first day so try to go as early as possible. I had a hard time finding a place because they stay booked and the birds up North not sure if they are true Osceolas so the further south the better in my opinion.

I was in South Florida one spring working when the two guys we were filming tagged out. The outfitter asked if myself and the other cameraman wanted to hunt. We only had one morning left and had to catch a flight home the next day.
We flipped a coin to see who would hunt first and I won. It took till around 9 before I killed a bird, which didn’t leave us much time to get to the airport.
I wrapped the bird in a garbage bag and stuffed him into a soft sided cooler to carry on. When the cooler went through the X Ray machine everything came to a screeching halt. When asked what the agent was looking at I told her, my pet turkey, George. I told her I’d had him since I was a child and that I was taking him home to bury on the family farm.
She offered her condolences and off I went.
