Ended up walking around 5 miles total.
Came across this first, looked to be a young button buck I’m guessing.

Looked to my left and this was laying under the pine needles about 10 foot from the skeleton. All I saw was about 2 inches of the top of horns sticking out.

Wish I would’ve found the sheds of the deer that made this rub.

Almost shite my pants when I about stepped on this dude. But pretty sure it’s a rat snake, the color threw me off since it was light gray. Maybe TigerDad can identify it.

Love doing this. A buddy of mine where I live is a shed magnet. He has unreal pairs of 5x5 and 6x6 elk horns that I want to steal.

It's amazing what you can find this time of year before all the thickets come back.

I don't think that's a rat snake. Maybe a racer of some kind...

Alxtgr will be here soon to correct me.

I have a better chance of finding a $100 bill in the woods than finding a shed. I’m horrible at shed hunting.

Yeah, looks like a blue racer.

Ifound close to 20 sheds last year in the woods behind the house. I usually walk about 4 miles each time I go.
Bucks on camera still have antlers here (St Tammany) for the most part. One dropped a side and I found it this past weekend along with a shed from last year.
Based off last years finds, this weekend coming up should start to get good.

Some of last years finds

only set I found side by side together

Matching set found about 350 yards apart

I still found enough briars patches to last me a life time. The pants I was wearing had a hole in the knee so I got tore up on that knee and my arms.

I started out on gale trails that were wide and easy to walk. A lot of them ending up becoming a thick mess and instead of turning around, I kept on trucking until I hit a road. That’s the good thing about where I hunt, you’ll never get lost due to always coming across trail/road throughout the lease.

I’ll probably invest a pair like that. I wasn’t planning on shed hunting. I got into a spot that was brutal and kept getting cut over the same spot.
