None that I've seen around MandeCo area and if they were anywhere around they'd be biting my arse so must be clear.

I made some spray with vanilla, alcohol, and water and it worked pretty well.

Finally encountered them in Pineville. Incredibly annoying, but these don't bite. Bigger than most too.

No, no. You just think they don’t bite. Give it a day or two. You’ll start seeing these giant whelps poppin up that itch and look like red bugs for a week or so. Those will be the gnats. Little bastards are terrible. Haven’t made more than 1 turkey hunt this year because they are so unbelievable. I’ve got skin so soft, vanilla, everything I’ve used in the past for them. It’s like they are immune to everything this year.

This works great. I use imitation vanilla, Listerine (the yellow original) and water. equal parts of each...spray it on and relax.
I've heard a little mint will help but haven't needed it yet.

We may have a different species. I was covered Sunday. Nothing yet. No bumps or itching at all. Have to say, these were the largest gnats I've ever seen and I have been out at this property weekly for the last 5 years. Never seen these before.

I was introduced to these bastards about 2 yrs ago at False River during a high school baseball game.

I've fished the marsh and coast around Cocodrie for 40 years and now know the difference b/w gnats and bull gnats.

A couple weeks ago went fish the Lake Fausse Pointe area and got popped 4 times, which left huge red marks on head and neck.

When it happened 2 years ago, I spent a few minutes researching the bastards, and it seems the recent floods of the Miss River expanded their normal territory.

Amber Romance does work.

Apparently, these are all black flies. The males feed on nectar. Maybe we had swarming males?

Yeah they are bigger than regular gnats. Hopefully you’re one of the lucky few who don’t have reactions to them. They’re normally around a bit every year, but not to this amount as this year. Last time I saw them this bad was the time that I first noticed them, which was around 11 years ago. Don’t recall them before that. Lots of folks were talking about them that year. Guys were swelling up fishing and turkey hunting and didn’t know why. I know that around my house it’s almost impossible to go outside and do anything that doesn’t allow for constant movement on a motorized vehicle of some sort. Absolute misery.

I've been around the biting ones before. These are bigger.

I live about a mile from False River and the Mississippi River is about a mile from my house. Them SOB's are so bad that I am like a big strawberry. Heck, I even tried burning crap to smoke them away. No help there.

No gnats by me, but I have my yearly fly infestation. No idea why, but once a year for like a week, I get maybe 20-30 flies in my house. After they die, no more flies
