Option 2
Posted on 5/9/14 at 1:49 pm to Carson123987
Neither, too many miles for me personally.
Option two is better due to lower miles, but it's also got 4wd with 50,000+ miles on it = higher maintenance costs in the future.

i graduate in a year and half. my 07 hit 100k and im just waiting for it to quit. everyone i know with the 04-08s said they just start falling apart after 100k
Keep it. You'll have to break a $500 part every month for 5 years to come out ahead with a new one.

Yep.
my truck has been paid off at least 10 years now. makes no sense to get a new one until it explodes
rereading the first post, why in the actual frick would you spend that much money while in school on a truck

Got a 2002 F150.
I've changed the alternator, cut off cats and ran straight dual exhausts with glass paks, and replaced the fuel filter.
So far my ford has been damn strong and is a damn good truck.
Keep your 07, save some money between now and when you graduate.
When you graduate use the money saved and the new graduate discount to get yourself a new truck.

Guy claims to make a bunch of money
If he can afford it, good for him. Still don't think it's a good idea. When you start looking at the numbers, it's REAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL hard to justify a new truck when yours is less than 20 years old.
You have to just want one, which is fine. It's hard to justify otherwise.

So much more shite I'd buy as a young guy than a new truck
but to each his own
but to each his own

I'm 21
I guess y'all are right. It would take the right deal. I may wait a few years so I can get one with an ecoboost for the right price.
Guess I'll just get a new rancher for now

when the 2015s come out in the fall, the price drop on the 09-14s will be pretty nice

Didn't even think about that

Put $500 a month into an account for maintenance and take money out when you need a repair. It'll give you a feel for paying a note on a new one and you'll have money set aside. You'll probably be surprised pretty quickly on how much money is pilling up. You'll be able to afford a new engine and transmission real quick.
When you decide to buy a new one, you can burn the account down on a down payment if you'd like.

I guess I had a little confirmation bias in regards to them breaking down after 100k. I've paid 2500 last 2 years to replace spark plugs and other dumb shite and it was pissing me off

Been there. It sucks. Nothing like having your truck in the shop and not having enough money to get it out.
Wait till you graduate and you'll be real glad you did (assuming your truck doesn't eat $500 of parts every month). Sounds like you make enough for a few repairs to not break you.

sorry for bitchin at you bro. Just don't think its a good idea. As others have said, when you are done with school the truck will be old.
Enjoy college life with your current truck and extra cash in your pocket. Once you hit the real world then you should get a new truck.

Word, no hard feelings
Posted on 5/9/14 at 3:28 pm to Carson123987
thanks. I just don't see the need. My first truck had 234,000 miles when it finally killed over. Inside was clean though as was the paint.

I have a 2010 lariat with 50k miles. I'll sell it to you for $30k then turn around and buy a new one for the same price and better interest rate.

Just kidding, kind of, the 2nd one.

I'm going with the guys advising you to keep your current truck. Mine's 9 years old, 212,000 +/- miles, and isn't going anywhere anytime soon. It just doesn't make sense to me to replace a vehicle so soon, especially if you're replacing it with another used vehicle.
That said, I buy used when I do buy. You can save 10s of thousands of dollars buying a 1 or 2 year old vehicle with less than 40K miles. I just don't do it very often.
