I planted 20 tomato plants. La Roma II, Goliath, and Super Fantastic.
4 sweet banana plants, 4 cayenne plants, 4 straight 8 cucumber plants, and green onions on the end. All are doing great. Tomatoes have lots of blumes. Fertilized twice already with 13-13-13
Been in the ground a little over a month.

I planted squash, okra, cucumbers and cantaloupe thursday. noticed yesterday it is already coming up. Unbelieveably fast germination. Especially the okra.

Does anyone have any tips on growing bell peppers? I can never seem to get a good crop?

Don't over water. Need about 8 hours sunlight. Need space for roots to spread out. Do not plant in pots.

I think I'm only going to do tomatoes and peppers this year. I've had squash bugs bad for the last two years and they just devastate anything big and leafy - squash, zucchini, cukes, etc. Anyone ever had these and know a good way to get rid of them? I think they're like stinkbugs and almost impossible to kill off.
I like to try heirloom tomatoes if I can. I planted 6 last weekend and 2 pepper plants and a basil plant. Right now I have a roma, red strawberry, green grape, Aunt Ruby's German green, Mr Stripey and brandywine. I want to find a cherokee purple to plant and a few other heirlooms. I might end up putting in a better boy or Parks Whopper if I can't find those. I've got a cayenne and super chili plant in and will probably do a jalapeno, pimento and a couple others. I was able to make pimento cheese last year with my pimento plant.
I'll probably end up with 8-10 tomato plants, 4-6 pepper plants and maybe a few other things, because I'm pretty impulsive when I buy veggies to plant. For herbs I've got a rosemary bush that's pretty good size now I use and some tri-color sage that's been coming back for the last few years as well, some citrus thyme and some english and spearmint behind my porch, that I've just kind of let take that area over. It's really nice to have an abundant supply of mint.
I've also got some leeks and fennell in another spot that I planted three years ago and I let a couple that I don't pick go to seed, and we always end up with more the next year. It's pretty nice.

I dont have alot of room in my backyard to build a big nice garden but I did get a 8ftx4ft raised bed and planted tomatos, peppers, squash and okra. Maybe I wont kill everything.
