What's up with the heavy handed green jeans killing this kids deer that his family rescued?

Part of me understands the law and the risk of domesticated deer running around unchecked but the risk seems extremely low when we are allowed deer breeding farms and shite.

When my dad was a young 9-10 yr old they found an abandoned fawn "doe" and nursed it back to health, it became kind of like all the other animals on the farm.

When deer season opened my dad put a big red scarf around he deer's neck to let everyone know it was the somewhat tame one, they lived in a small community so everyone knew of the deer.

Of course some idiot redneck shot it and was all proud of his trophy, my dad hated that guy until he died.

Agents issued Mr. Sibley a citation for illegal possession of a wild game quadruped, which carries a $250 to $500 fine and up to 90 days in jail. He was also charged with civil restitution for the deer, totaling $1,624.

civil restitution for the deer

If the deer was entitled to civil restitution for being allowed to live, then the deer's estate should be entitled to much more from everyone involved in his demise.

... and whistleblower double that and those 90 days in jail.
