Indian Creek is not a LA State Park. It must be a private campground. What city is it in?
ETA: Found it online. Seems to be a private cammpground in Independence LA. I would assume it is comparable to Jelleystone in Robert.

No, Indian creek is a state park in woodworth.
Eta: google "Indian creek, woodworth". It may be federal.

I suppose technically it's not a State Park. It's an unusual deal. It's in Alexander State park in Woodworth, but the Parish has a lot to do with it.

The Indian Creek Lake and Recreation Area encompasses a 2,250 acre lake, 100 acres of developed recreation facilities and a 250 acre primitive camping area all within the Alexander State Forest. The lake, located in central Louisiana, was constructed as a joint venture of the Louisiana Forestry Commission, the Rapides Parish Police Jury, and the Lower West Red River Soil and Water Conservation District as a reservoir for agricultural irrigation in times of need and for recreation purposes.

Thanks guys the outdoor board is already pulling through
We camp fairly often (at least once a month) with our 5th wheel and haven't heard of this place before. I have pretty much camped at every decent campground within 3hrs of Houma so this will give us somewhere else to check out.
ETA: never seen the la dept of forrestry website before. I usually go to the department of state parks website and book online through reserve America.

If and when you come up, let me know. We go there a lot. Do you bring a boat?

no I don't double tow.
11k lbs of RV behind my truck are enough

You'll love it. There are two developed areas. I call em them new part and old part cause I'm real creative and original. The new part is a little lacking in shade cause it's......new. The older camp ground is my favorite. It's best to get there early in the week to get a good spot. Makes me want another camper! Alx may be able to give a more recent update as it's been years since I've camped out there.

Take a trip up to Lake Claiborne. One of the nicest in the state.

Indian Creek is a nice place to camp, only thing I have found it is had to get a site if you go there on Friday. You may want to head up there on Thursday. I have heard that they now take reservations, can any one confirm this.

We call the new part, "The old folks home". I got that from one of the workers. You rarely see anyone in there under 65. We stayed there a few weeks ago. The sites are better, but it's a long idle in the boat through a no wake zone. My wife pulls my boat, as I won't even try to double tow.

Matter of fact, I was camping on the point at Indian creek when lsu beat #1 Florida in 97. That camp ground was fun that night.

I bet it was. Our next trip is going to be to Cajun Palms in Henderson, LA towards the end of the month. Haven't been but it is a fairly new and well developed private camp ground. Very resort style with a zero entry pool and swim up bar.

I usually head out there on thursday morning and put a tent on a site. You can make a reservation, but I think all that does is assure you of a spot, not any one particular spot. On popular weekends, there's nothing left by mid-day Friday. Once school starts, it's a bit easier.
Love being there on game day. I pull the 32" lcd out of the camper ond put it on a picnick table under my LSU tent. I can get some HD channels from both lafayette and Lake Chuck, plus the Alexandria HD channel. The weather is usally great for that. Fire, BBQ, beer and HD football with a view of the lake. My favorite way to watch the Tigers.
Dirty lense on this one,

Lake D'arbonne state park in Union Parish. The cabins are huge and not expensive. They cost about $140 a night and has 2 full baths, 2 queen size beds, 4 bunk beds and a pull out couch. They have a fridge, stove, microwave, toaster etc... They have a boat launch, fish cleaning station, bbq pits everywhere, hiking trails, swimming pool, tennis courts and they also rent boats. The hills remind me of the smokey mountains. It's awesome.

It's not a state park, but if you hike the Azalea trail system around Kincaid/Valentine lake, there are many nice camping areas if you are looking for more a primitive camp.
The trail system is in Kistachie National Forest.
Also my family usually rents the cabins at Hodges Gardens every spring. Nice scenery and good fishing in the lake. The cabins are cheap too.

Kincaid has a newish area with RV pads. It's federal, so the rules are strict. We have not been because there is poor water access. Valentines has pads too, but no water or electricity. I guess you could boondock.

dont like camping, scared of bugs and such
Posted on 8/2/10 at 11:05 am to AlxTgr
Yeah, I was more talking about primitive tent camping.

I miss doing that. When my 4 year old gets a little older, he and I will start going. The wife won't go anymore now that we have a camper.
