Agreed. His only mistake was posting it on FB. I hope he doesn’t give in to the pressure from the cancel culture goons... and resigns.
Ralph Northam rode out something far worse.
Stand up to a bully and he’ll invariably back off.

He spoke they're solely on Forests service as a Confederate leader, not as a KKK leader.
But Democrats aren't smart enough to distinguish between the two.
Or what about Forrest rebuking the violent nature of some Klan organizations and his attempts at reconciliation with black folks?
A speech to the Proto-NAACP:
1875 talk by NBF
Highlights -
quote:
I will say to you and to the colored race that men who bore arms and followed the flag of the Confederacy are, with very few exceptions, your friends. I have an opportunity of saying what I have always felt - that I am your friend, for my interests are your interests, and your interests are my interests. We were born on the same soil, breathe the same air, and live in the same land. Why, then, can we not live as brothers?
quote:
I want to elevate you to take positions in law offices, in stores, on farms, and wherever you are capable of going.
quote:
I want you to come nearer to us. When I can serve you I will do so. We have but one flag, one country; let us stand together. We may differ in color, but not in sentiment. Use your best judgement in selecting men for office and vote as you think right.
quote:
Many things have been said about me which are wrong, and which white and black persons here, who stood by me through the war, can contradict. I have been in the heat of battle when colored men, asked me to protect them. I have placed myself between them and the bullets of my men, and told them they should be kept unharmed. Go to work, be industrious, live honestly and act truly, and when you are oppressed I'll come to your relief. I thank you, ladies and gentlemen, for this opportunity you have afforded me to be with you, and to assure you that I am with you in heart and in hand.

I am not an expert on this, but from what I have read, Forrest renounced the Klan at some point once it got out of control and was no longer serving its original purpose to confront Reconstruction corruption.

It appears he didn’t break any laws. Bad timing.... politically ill advised? Yes.
His Pratville, AL, area voters will decide if he needs voting out.
This too shall pass.... especially if he offered an apology and kissed the cancel culture gods rings. Just ask Gov. Meemaw.

No they are like pittbulls or sharks. Never show weakness and never apologize. Stand strong and tell them to pound sand. I'm not in his district and I don't really condone or support what he does, I just can't stand these people.

He's fairly popular here. One of the first to call out the Governor for the over reaching shutdown. Plus he carries a well-known, local name. I don't see this being much of a detriment to being re-elected. Higher office may have it's hurdles, though.

Yeah, I don't know him personally but a lot of my friends do. They all like him. He's very visible in our district. I see him at a lot of public events.

First, I would not go to a NBF event. With that said ...
So, Robert Byrd was a DEM Senator for I think 50 years... he started a KKK group in West Virg. I don;t recall ANY Dem asking him to resign. He dies in office just 10 years ago. I believe I read that NBF wrote about racial harmony in his later years. So what is the difference between the two. - NBF was meaner?
If Dismukes wants to go to that event that is HIS CHOICE. if people do not like it they can vote him out of office. That is the way it works.
The hypocrisy of the left know no bounds.
