Which is?

Turning a blind eye towards sexual assault. There is a stat where UVA has expelled X number of people for honor code infractions in the last decade or so, but not one for any sexual assault or misconduct. I'll try and dig it up.

Well, this is actually important.

If it didn't happen, and it isn't a "culture" issue, then what is the problem?

We learned very little from Tawana Brawley or Crystal Gail Mangum, didn't we?

What makes you think this is the only rape accusation or complaint?

I'm making no claim either way, but if you are going to state that it isn't the only one, I would like you to prove it for me.

I have no doubts that rape has occurred on UVA's campus, but I would remiss to jump to the conclusion of "culture".

Don't jump to conclusions.

Edited to include a link

There was another website I wanted to include that was called "UVA victims of sexual assault" but coincidentally had been taken down.

Plus, I have anecdotal evidence from female family friends who went to UVA and said there was very much of a "blind eye" culture there.

I looked at it. Sad story, but not indicative of a "rape culture".

I can only assume that everything on that website was proven to be factual, correct?

Sorry, but I will not accept anecdotal evidence.

All I'm saying is that jumping to conclusions via emotionally stimulating stories is what got us Tawana Brawley and Mangum.

If this "rape culture" is proven to be factual, I'll condemn it, but I'll hold off on taking a side until then.

I suspect that, though it would be difficult to prove, this is true at most prestigious universities. You can't ruin the life of a son of some wealthy or otherwise influential person over some "youthful indiscretion".

Except it is a culture problem.

Are you going on record that there were no other rapes? And thst the admin reacted differently in this case?

I'm pretty sure you didn't read the story.

This times 1000.

The fact is, we teach our sisters and daughters that rape is part of being a woman. If it happens to them, then they need to shut up and toe the line.

You see this at every university and throughout society.

Why do you think 20 women have come out of the closet on the heels of the Bill Cosby allegations.

Shut up or else.

They need to burn all the frats down at Virginia....

Look at the George Huguley kid..the UVA lacrosse player who killed his girlfriend. While I don't think there are other burgeoning murderers populating their campus, don't try and tell me that sort of entitlement isn't contagious.

Pretty much.

I attended Florida State in the early to mid 80s.

People on campus use to joke it was the rape capitol of the US...(per capita).

A couple of years after I left this happened.

FSU frat gang rapes woman

The file in The State of Florida vs. Daniel Oltarsh reads like the tawdriest of fiction.

The main character is a privileged Big Man on Campus, living off his father`s trust fund, a member of the fraternity that declared itself the best on campus.

The victim is an 18-year-old woman, a freshman with a penchant for partying and a fragile mind.

Your kidding yourself if you think that this sort of thing hasn't happened before, isn't happening now and won't happen again on the campuses of the universities where we send our daughters and sisters.

Well rest assured things have changed, especially when it comes to athletics.

Talk to a few women some time.

Talk to them about some of the shite they have to endure just because they have tits.

Some of the horror stories my wife has told me about her time in college both enrage and sadden me.

My wife, my sister, all my female friends . . .

not a single one has ever told me they were instructed to "let it go."
